Comparison of Joint Mobilization and Movement Pattern Training for Patients with Hip-Related Groin Pain: A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: A large RCT to assess the effects of JtMob and MoveTrain for patients with HRGP may be feasible. Preliminary findings suggested that JtMob or MoveTrain may result in improvements in patient-reported pain and activity limitations.IMPACT: The COVID-19 pandemic interfered with participation, but a randomized controlled trial may be feasible. Modification may be needed if the trial is completed during future pandemics.PMID:37606253 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzad111

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1776: Associations of Serum Calprotectin, Arterial Stiffness and Long COVID Symptoms in Dalmatian Kidney Transplant Recipients
a Radić We aimed to explore long COVID symptoms, serum calprotectin levels, and the parameters of arterial stiffness in Dalmatian kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and their possible associations. A cross-sectional, single-center case-control study on 98 KTRs who had recovered from COVID-19 was performed. Long COVID symptoms were explored via standardized questionnaires assessing quality of life, and serum calprotectin was also measured. Out of 98 KTRs with a mean age of 62 years, 63 (64.3%) were men. Medical history, clinical and laboratory parameters, and arterial stiffness measurements were obtained for each stud...

Acute thrombotic occlusion involving three coronary arteries. A unique association with COVID ‐19 pneumonia
Proximal Left Anterior Descending artery (LAD) 100% thrombotic occlusion and distal Left circumflex artery (LCX) 100% thrombotic occlusion. B. distal Right Coronary artery (RCA) 100% thrombotic occlusion. C. Post-percutaneous coronary intervention to LAD and LCX Key Clinical MessageRespiratory viruses, particularly COVID-19, can be associated with severe cases of myocardial infarction (MI). Physicians should have a low threshold for MI in COVID-19 patients who present with persistent chest pain as MI in rapidly deteriorating cases can be missed. Prompt response includes both timely diagnosis and swift treatment.AbstractThe...

We Can Prevent Overdose Deaths If We Change How We Think About Them
I’ve been living in recovery from opioid use disorder for eight and a half years, and this might be a weird thing to say about addiction, but I feel lucky—like I dodged a bullet. I was addicted to opioids in Florida throughout the early 2000s, during the heyday of pill mills that flooded the streets with powerful pharmaceuticals like OxyContin. I say I’m lucky because this was just before the drug supply turned into a toxic sludge of potent fentanyl analogues, mysterious tranquilizers, and deadly counterfeit pills. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I were using today. The chances of my survival ...

The use of complementary and alternative medicine for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms in Long COVID: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: This is the first systematic review to explore the role of CAM in treating GI manifestations of Long COVID. The review identified four studies, all reporting reductions in the GI symptoms of Long COVID. Despite the positive studies included in this review, the overall search yielded few results, all of which were non-experimental. As the post-infectious sequelae of COVID-19 become better recognized in the wake of the pandemic, higher-quality clinical studies are needed.PMID:37577106 | PMC:PMC10422885 | DOI:10.1177/20406223231190548

COVID-19 ’ s Impact on Heart Health Still Confounds Doctors
(ST. LOUIS) — Firefighter and paramedic Mike Camilleri once had no trouble hauling heavy gear up ladders. Now battling long COVID, he gingerly steps onto a treadmill to learn how his heart handles a simple walk. “This is, like, not a tough-guy test so don’t fake it,” warned Beth Hughes, a physical therapist at Washington University in St. Louis. [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] Somehow, a mild case of COVID-19 set off a chain reaction that eventually left Camilleri with dangerous blood pressure spikes, a heartbeat that raced with slight exertion, and episodes of intense chest pain...
