Cardiac Tamponade Secondary to Hemorrhagic Pericardial Effusion: A Complication of STEMI
Conclusion: The differential for hemodynamic compromise in a patient with STEMI is broad, but quickly distinguishing pump failure from other life-threatening causes of shock is imperative to dictate time-sensitive management decisions. The presence of a hemorrhagic pericardial effusion in the setting of STEMI is a surrogate marker for a severe infarct and can help the bedside physician determine whether a patient will be better served in the catheterization lab for revascularization or in the operating room for surgical repair.PMID:37711482 | PMC:PMC10498953 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0023

Abdominal Imaging Findings in Laboratory-Confirmed COVID-19 Patients: A Retrospective Observational Study
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, the research conducted on the abdominal manifestations of COVID-19 is still limited, especially in our region. Our study showed that there are variable presentations of abdominal organ involvement in COVID-19 cases, and as such more data is required to direct choice of imaging study, protocol, and interpretation of findings to better guide patient management.PMID:37649952 | PMC:PMC10463944 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42677

Pulmonary embolism in COVID-19 pneumonia patients admitted to temporary hospital - The follow-up study
CONCLUSIONS: Ongoing SARS-CoV-2 infection along with massive involvement of lung tissue and concomitant thrombi in pulmonary arteries are challenging for physicians. It seems that simple D-dimer concentration assessment at admission may be a helpful tool not only to predict PE but also to estimate the long-term prognosis.PMID:37633116 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2023.08.002

Radiologic Features of T10 Paravertebral Muscle Sarcopenia: Prognostic Factors in COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: Easy to obtain and accurately calculated, radiologic features can provide a reliable alternative to laboratory methods for predicting survival in COVID-19. Thoracic muscles' CSA measurement in the level of the T10 vertebra, an acclaimed prognostic imaging assessment that relates directly to CT-SS and inflammatory markers in COVID-19 pneumonia, is a fairly specific tool for survival prognosis.PMID:37575354 | PMC:PMC10416190 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr4963

Predictors of Mortality among COVID-19 Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units: A Single-Center Study in Tehran, Iran
CONCLUSION: The findings are consistent with and add to the currently existing international literature. The findings may be used to predict risk of mortality from COVID-19 and provide some guidance on potential treatments.PMID:37542399 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2022.106

Radiological assessment of immunotherapy effects and immune checkpoint-related pneumonitis for lung cancer
This article reviews the complications of immunotherapy in lung cancer and illustrates various radiologic patterns of ICI-pneumonitis. Additionally, it is tried to differentiate ICI-pneumonitis from other pulmonary pathologies common to lung cancer such as radiation pneumonitis, bacterial pneumonia and coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) infection in recent months. Maybe it is challenging to distinguish radiologically but clinical presentation may help.PMID:37525480 | DOI:10.1111/jcmm.17895

The role of chest X-ray in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection: findings and correlation with clinical outcome
CONCLUSIONS: CXR can help in detecting clinically moderate and severe cases of COVID-19. CXR can assist clinicians in patient management and treatment planning regarding the clinical course, respiratory support, ICU need, and mortality and can help them prepare for potential negative outcomes.PMID:37522668 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202307_33127
