Cardiac Tamponade Secondary to Hemorrhagic Pericardial Effusion: A Complication of STEMI
Conclusion: The differential for hemodynamic compromise in a patient with STEMI is broad, but quickly distinguishing pump failure from other life-threatening causes of shock is imperative to dictate time-sensitive management decisions. The presence of a hemorrhagic pericardial effusion in the setting of STEMI is a surrogate marker for a severe infarct and can help the bedside physician determine whether a patient will be better served in the catheterization lab for revascularization or in the operating room for surgical repair.PMID:37711482 | PMC:PMC10498953 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0023

Validation of myocarditis diagnoses in the Swedish patient register for analyses of potential adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines
CONCLUSION: This validation of register-based diagnoses of myocarditis by manual patient record review confirmed the register diagnosis in 96% of cases and had high interrater reliability. Reclassification had only a minor impact on the incidence rate ratios for myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination.PMID:37223633 | PMC:PMC10202079 | DOI:10.48101/ujms.v128.9290

An effective ECG signal compression algorithm with self controlled reconstruction quality
Comput Methods Biomech Biomed Engin. 2023 May 3:1-11. doi: 10.1080/10255842.2023.2206933. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTElectrocardiogram (ECG) signals are frequently used in the continuous monitoring of heart patients. These recordings generate huge data, which is difficult to store or transmit in telehealth applications. In the above context, this work proposes an efficient novel compression algorithm by integrating the tunable-Q wavelet transform (TQWT) with coronavirus herd immunity optimizer (CHIO). Additionally, this algorithm facilitates the self-adaptive nature to regulate the reconstruction quality by limiting the...

Frontal QRS-T angle in patients with the suspicion of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): could it be used as a predictive gravity sign even before the diagnosis by PCR?
CONCLUSIONS: Prompt diagnosis, initiating preventive and protective measures in an early stage of COVID-19 are crucial. In suspected COVID-19 infection, the use of faster-resulting tests and diagnostic tools for COVID-19 allows patients to be diagnosed and treated in a timely manner for recovery, thereby optimizing patient management. Therefore, the fQRS-T angle can be used in patients with dyspnea as a part of diagnostic scores of COVID-19, even before the rRT-PCR test results and overt disease.PMID:36876703 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202302_31412

Telehealth Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic: Initial Experience During COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusions: In the setting of COVID-19, a telehealth RACPC model with reduced use of additional testing facilitated social distancing and achieved clinical outcomes equivalent to a face-to-face RACPC control. Telehealth may have an ongoing role beyond the pandemic, supporting specialist chest pain assessment for rural and remote communities. Pending further study, it may be safe to reduce the frequency of additional testing following RACPC review.PMID:36862536 | DOI:10.1089/tmj.2022.0493

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy presenting with QT prolongation and Torsade de pointes in the setting of coronavirus disease 2019
J Nippon Med Sch. 2023 Feb 21. doi: 10.1272/jnms.JNMS.2023_90-607. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular complications resulting from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are occasionally observed; however, takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) with QT prolongation and Torsade de pointes have rarely been reported. We herein present a case of TCM that occurred after QT prolongation and Torsade de pointes. A 58-year-old woman was admitted because of COVID-19 pneumonia. Seven days after admission, she had a sudden loss of consciousness without any precursor of cardiovascular disease. Monitoring electrocardiogram indicated Tors...
