Development of gallic acid-loaded ethylcellulose fibers as a potential wound dressing material
In this study, novel fibers were designed based on ethylcellulose (EC), loaded with different concentrations of gallic acid (GA) using the electrospinning technique, in order to investigate the potential of these materials as wound dressings. The chemical structure and morphology, along with the antimicrobial and biocompatibility tests of the EC_GA fibers were investigated. To observe the chemical interactions between the components, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used. The morphological analyzes were performed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The uniaxial tensile test machine was used to obtai...

Characterization of Multiple Resistance Genes of Escherichia coli Strains Isolated from Food and Clinical Samples
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2023 Jul 31;69(7):118-126. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2023.69.7.19.ABSTRACTMulti-drug resistance (MDR), which is formed by the development of antimicrobial resistance, which is one of the defense mechanisms in bacteria, has pushed human beings to constantly seek new antimicrobial agents in the fight against these microorganisms. Speed and precision are very important in identifying resistance in strains with MDR that reach humans in an open system through the consumption of contaminated food or water. The main aim of this study was the molecular characterization of ESBL gene variants (blaTEM, blaOXA,...

Two birds, one stone: Enhancement of flame retardancy and antibacterial property of viscose fabric using an aminoazole-based cyclotriphosphazene
In this study, an aminoazole-based cyclotriphosphazene (HATA) was designed and synthesized through nucleophilic substitution between hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole. The application of a rapid dipping strategy and the use of 10 wt% HATA aqueous solution significantly increased the limiting oxygen index of the viscose fabric from 19.3 % to 28.4 %. In addition, the HATA-treated fabric exhibited self-extinguishing properties in vertical flame testing. The peak heat release rate of HATA-treated fabric, according to pyrolysis combustion flow calorimetry, significantly decreased by over 83 %. The scannin...

Phosphatase A1 accessory protein PlaS from Serratia marcescens controls cell membrane permeability, fluidity, hydrophobicity, and fatty acid composition in Escherichia coli BL21
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 10:126776. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126776. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhospholipase A1 (PlaA) plays a pivotal role in diverse applications within the food and biochemical medical industries. Herein, we investigate the impact of the accessory protein encoded by plaS from Serratia marcescens on PlaA activity in Escherichia coli. Notably, PlaS demonstrates the ability to enhance PlaA activity while concurrently exhibiting inhibitory effects on the growth of E. coli BL21 (DE3). Our study revolves around probing the inhibitory action of PlaS on E. coli BL21 (DE3). PlaS exhibits a propensity...

Improving the Durability of Chitosan Films through Incorporation of Magnesium, Tungsten, and Graphene Oxides for Biomedical Applications
In this study, loaded with tungsten oxide (WO3), Magnesium oxide (MgO), and graphene oxide (GO) on chitosan (CS) membrane, an inexpensive polymer casting method was successfully prepared for wound healing applications. All fabricated composites were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study the synthesized film samples' morphology as well as their microstructure. The formed WO3/MgO@CS shows a great enhancement in the UV-Vis analysis with a highly intense peak at 401 nm and a n...

Extraction and characterization of Chitosan from Shell of Borassus flabellifer and their antibacterial and antioxidant applications
This study aimed to investigate the biological activity of chitosan extracted from B. flabellifer fruit shells and to analyze its molecular structure using FT-IR analysis. Results showed the presence of NH, OH, and CO stretching, indicating the presence of various functional groups in chitosan. Scanning electron microscopic study revealed the topography of the chitosan. Well-diffusion and MIC tests showed that chitosan exhibited activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The chitosan extract also exhibited potential antioxidant polymer by scavenging free radicals.PMID:37659486 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126592

The therapeutic potential for targeting CSE/H < sub > 2 < /sub > S signaling in macrophages against Escherichia coli infection
Vet Res. 2023 Aug 29;54(1):71. doi: 10.1186/s13567-023-01203-8.ABSTRACTMacrophages play a pivotal role in the inflammatory response to the zoonotic pathogen E. coli, responsible for causing enteric infections. While considerable research has been conducted to comprehend the pathogenesis of this disease, scant attention devoted to host-derived H2S. Herein, we reported that E. coli infection enhanced the expression of CSE in macrophages, accompanied by a significantly increased inflammatory response. This process may be mediated by the involvement of excessive autophagy. Inhibition of AMPK or autophagy with pharmacological i...

Pulp waste extracted reinforced powder incorporated biodegradable chitosan composite film for enhancing red grape shelf-life
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Aug 18:126375. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126375. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChitosan (CS) is widely used as a natural biopolymer because of its semi-crystalline structure, good film-forming properties, and easy availability. CS-based composite films are widely used in industry, particularly in the food sector as active food packaging. Despite all of these advantages, their wide range of applications are constrained by poor mechanical properties. Therefore, this work introduced refined bamboo cellulose powder (RBCP), a reinforcing material that is extracted from waste bamboo pulp and applied ...
