Framing Cancer Survivors' Access to and Use and Disposal of Prescribed Opioids Within the Opioid Epidemic
Oncol Nurs Forum. 2022 Dec 16;50(1):25-34. doi: 10.1188/23.ONF.25-34.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: To explore cancer survivors' access to and use and disposal of opioids in the context of the opioid epidemic.PARTICIPANTS & SETTING: Community-based recruitment strategies were employed for individuals aged 18 years or older who were previously diagnosed with cancer, completed cancer treatment within the past five years, or were cancer free, and who were prescribed opioids for cancer-related pain.METHODOLOGIC APPROACH: This qualitative study used semistructured interviews. Data were analyzed using applied thematic analysis techniques....

Cycle Threshold Values as Indication of Increasing SARS-CoV-2 New Variants, England, 2020-2022
Emerg Infect Dis. 2023 Sep 7;29(10). doi: 10.3201/eid2910.230030. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly detection of increased infections or new variants of SARS-CoV-2 is critical for public health response. To determine whether cycle threshold (Ct) data from PCR tests for SARS-CoV-2 could serve as an early indicator of epidemic growth, we analyzed daily mean Ct values in England, UK, by gene target and used iterative sequential regression to detect break points in mean Ct values (and positive test counts). To monitor the epidemic in England, we continued those analyses in real time. During September 2020-January 2022, a tot...

Infodemic: Challenges and solutions in topic discovery and data process
ConclusionsThis review found that Infodemic is a rapidly growing research area that attracts the interest of researchers from different disciplines. The number of studies in this field has increased significantly in recent years, with researchers from different countries, including the United States, India, and China. Infodemic topic discovery, data collection, and data preparation are not easy, and each step faces different challenges. While there is some research in this emerging field, there are still many challenges that need to be addressed. These findings highlight the need for more articles to address these issues and fill these gaps.

Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae detection methods: a minireview
Arch Microbiol. 2023 Sep 6;205(10):326. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03665-y.ABSTRACTHypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp), characterized by high virulence and epidemic potential, has become a global public health challenge. Therefore, improving the identification of hvKp and enabling earlier and faster detection in the community to support subsequent effective treatment and prevention of hvKp are an urgent issue. To address these issues, a number of assays have emerged, such as String test, Galleria mellonella infection test, PCR, isothermal exponential amplification, and so on. In this paper, we have collected articles o...

Genomic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 variants in South Korea between January 2020 and February 2023
Virology. 2023 Aug 26;587:109869. doi: 10.1016/j.virol.2023.109869. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) has been conducting national genomic surveillance of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2). To monitor and characterize circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants in South Korea, 102,873 oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal swab samples collected from patients with confirmed COVID-19 were sequenced, assigned lineages, and phylogenetically analyzed. Each wave followed a pattern of variants emerging first abroad and then spreading domestically. In 2020, B.41 lineage led ...
