Clinical and Laboratory Profile of Zika and Dengue Infected Patients: Lessons Learned From the Co-circulation of Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya in Brazil
In conclusion, our data characterized the occurrence of an ongoing triple epidemic caused by DENV, ZIKV and CHIKV in Campo Grande, MS, Brazil. Importantly, the knowledge about dengue or zika severity in co-infected individuals is still unknown, however we provided here, new contributions related to the clinical presentations and laboratorial parameters during DENV and ZIKV infections, in an endemic scenario. Author Contributions Patient recruitment and enrollment: RVC, ELA, TMAS, LSB, JBC, MDF, IHR; Patient Classification: RVC, ELA; Performed the experiments: ELA, TMAS, LSB, JCSA, PCGN; Contributed with reagents and lab s...

Clinical and Epidemiological Characterization of Laboratory-Confirmed Autochthonous Cases of Zika Virus Disease in Mexico
CONCLUSIONS ZIKV epidemic poses new challenges to public health, our knowledge about this virus is incipient. In Brazil, a relationship between ZIKV and microcephaly has been mentioned since November 20157 which has not been reported in ZIKV outbreaks in other areas of the world. Several research groups are working on this topic. Guillain Barré Syndrome also has been reported as a complication of ZIKV; however, there are still many questions unanswered regarding the complications caused by this virus. Provide information to the population, following recommendations and preventive measures, taking actions to reduce the d...

The 2016-2017 Chikungunya Outbreak in Karachi
Conclusion This study confirmed that the current outbreak in Karachi during Dec 2016-Feb 2017 is of Chikungunya Virus and may appeared in more frequent outbreaks of CHKV in near future as of dengue in Pakistan. We recommend surveillance for CHKV, its vectors and preparedness to prevent future outbreaks of CHKV infection in Pakistan. The Case Files: Disease Traveling by Plane
By Hirashima, Eva Tovar MD, MPH; Crucio, Ted MD   A 34-year-old woman presented to the ED complaining of nausea, vomiting, and body tingling. She had just returned from a one-week stay in Haiti. Four days prior to presentation, she had eaten red snapper in a local restaurant. A few hours after the ingestion, she had colicky abdominal pain, watery non-bloody diarrhea, and circumoral tingling, which later progressed to generalized itching, tingling, and intense burning.   The patient reported on arrival at our ED improvement of the diarrhea, but the generalized itching and tingling had worsened, and she complained of fatig...

'This Too Is Sacred' -- Finding the Crack That Opens the Way for Gratitude
Many years ago my teacher Gangaji said to me, very simply: "It is impossible to suffer when we are feeling gratitude." What a life-changing teaching this has been! I've found it to be true again and again, and so deeply useful in navigating my life-long journey with suffering and peace. Suffering and gratitude do not arise in the same breath. And yet interestingly, this is not the same as with pain. I've noticed that pain and thankfulness can arise in the same breath~ physical pain, emotional heartache, mental anguish, spiritual yearning... can indeed arise alongside deep gratitude for the Mystery which undeniably includ...

Symptom Burden in mesothelioma patients admitted to home palliative care.
CONCLUSION: This study shows that mesothelioma is a devastating cancer with a relevant symptom burden, and that patients were referred to palliative care late in the course of their disease, suggesting that earlier integration of palliative care should be considered to relieve suffering in all disease stages-not only at the end of life. What It's Like When A Guinea Worm Living Inside Your Body Suddenly Burrows Out
This article is part of HuffPost’s Project Zero campaign, a yearlong series on neglected tropical diseases and efforts to fight them. JUBA, South Sudan ― It took days for Maker Achuil and others to slowly pull the arm-length, spaghetti-like worm out of his thigh. After a year with the white parasite inside him, Achuil screamed in pain as the grown Guinea worm emerged. A former soldier in South Sudan, which fought for decades before gaining its independence from Sudan in 2011, Achuil still shudders at the memory of the agony he felt as the worm was gradually wound around a stick. “It was like putting...

Effect of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Reducing Spasticity in Patients Suffering From HTLV-1–Associated Myelopathy
Conclusions:It seems that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation could decrease spasticity and pain in patients with HAM/TSP, and this effect could persistently continue by 1 month, but it did not influence patients' muscle power and quality of life, and it could be used as an adjuvant therapy in patients suffering from human T-lymphotropic virus type 1–associated HAM/TSP.

DSM-5 Insomnia and Short Sleep: Comorbidity Landscape and Racial Disparities
Conclusions:Insomnia disorder with short sleep is the most severe phenotype of insomnia and comorbid with many cardiometabolic and psychiatric illnesses, whereas morbidity profiles are highly similar between insomniacs with normal sleep duration and former insomniacs. Short sleep endemic to black Americans increases risk for the short sleep insomnia phenotype and likely contributes to racial disparities in cardiometabolic disease and psychiatric illness.Citation:Kalmbach DA, Pillai V, Arnedt JT, Drake CL. Life-threatening disseminated tuberculosis masquerading as cervical spondylosis---Case report "Cervical TB v/s Cervical Spondylosis"
J Family Med Prim Care. 2022 Apr;11(4):1558-1560. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1515_21. Epub 2022 Mar 18.ABSTRACTTuberculosis (TB) is quite prevalent in developing countries, with an ever-rising incidence of extrapulmonary cases. TB of bones and joints is quite challenging to diagnose. Most spinal TB lesions localize at the thoracic and lumbar levels; cervical lesions are a rarity. Hence, most neck pains are labelled cervical spondylosis as the symptomatology of cervical spine tuberculosis (CTB) remains unclear. A 38-year-old male had long-standing neck pain for six months, not associated with any focal neurological deficit, n...

Epididymoorchitis as the first finding in patients with brucellosis.
Conclusion. In endemic regions, epididymoorchitis caused by brucellosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with acute scrotal pain. Clinical and serological findings are sufficient for the diagnosis. Conservative management combined with antibiotic therapy is adequate for managing brucellar epididymoorchitis.
