Aspirin versus anticoagulation for stroke prophylaxis in blunt cerebrovascular injury: a propensity-matched retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Therapeutic anticoagulation may be inferior to aspirin for stroke prevention in BCVI. Prospective research is warranted to definitively compare these treatment strategies.PMID:33770758 | DOI:10.3171/2020.10.JNS201836

033 GLP-1RAs reduce stroke incidence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a meta-analysis
Conclusions This data supports the value of GLP-1RAs in reducing stroke incidence in patients with T2DM. There is potential value in prospective, randomised controlled trials adequately powered to establish the value of GLP-1RAs in stroke prevention in T2DM patients. mark.maskery@doctors.org.uk|ABN Bursary

Automated emergent large vessel occlusion detection by artificial intelligence improves stroke workflow in a hub and spoke stroke system of care
Conclusions AI automated alerts can be incorporated into a comprehensive stroke center hub and spoke system of care. The use of AI to detect ELVO improves clinically meaningful stroke workflow metrics, resulting in faster treatment times for mechanical thrombectomy.

P-006 The 'hub-spoke telemedicine model in a large cohort of stroke patients
ConclusionTele-stroke networks have proven to be a pivotal development in the treatment of strokes, especially those that are remote. With the additional expertise and the shorter duration from onset to diagnosis to treatment, these networks have substantially improved patient care and decreased healthcare costs, avoiding unnecessary transfers from spoke hospitals to hub.Abstract P-006 Figure 1Abstract P-006 Figure 2Disclosures K. Microstructural tissue damage in normal appearing brain tissue accumulates with Framingham Stroke Risk Profile Score: Magnetization transfer imaging results of the Austrian Stroke Prevention Study
Conclusion: Increasing risk for stroke leads to microstructural brain changes invisible by standard MRI. The validity, the underlying pathogenic mechanisms and the clinical importance of these abnormalities needs to be further determined.

The value of the use of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide among acute ischemic stroke patients in a Chinese emergency department
In this study, 142 of 238 acute ischemic stroke patients met the study criteria [mean age 70.84±11.48 years, 74 (52.11%) female]. Of the 142 patients, 35.92% were diagnosed with LAA at discharge, 25.35% with CE, 27.46% with SAO, 11.27% with SOE or SUE. Age, previous cardiac disease, atrial fibrillation, the length of hospital stays, SSS score on admission≤25 and mRS≥3 or death at discharge were all significantly higher in the CE patients compared to other subtypes (p

Endovascular stroke intervention in young patients with large vessel occlusions.
Conclusions The results of this study demonstrate that endovascular therapy provides remarkably high rates of arterial recanalization and favorable outcomes in young patients with acute ischemic stroke and large vessel occlusions. These findings support aggressive interventional strategies in these patients. Randomized, controlled trials reflecting modern acute ischemic stroke treatment will be needed to confirm the findings of this study. PMID: 24380483 [PubMed - in process]

The frequency of postoperative stroke in moyamoya disease following combined revascularization: a single-university series and systematic review.
Conclusions This experience of 358 consecutive procedures is one of the largest series for which the postoperative stoke rate for direct/combined bypass performed with a unified strategy has been reported. A systematic review confirmed that the postoperative stroke rate for the direct/combined procedure was comparable to that for the indirect procedure.
