Provision of safe and specialized stroke care using an inter-professional learning approach: A novel stroke service improvement
Introduction: The King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh has reconfigured stroke services by creating a novel stroke model whereby all suspected stroke patients are admitted directly to the high dependency stroke unit (HSDU) in order to provide specialized multidisciplinary care to all stroke patients. Before the launch of this new stroke model, training for all nurses is imperative to ensure they will deliver safe and specialized care.

'Time is vision' after a stroke
(University of Rochester) University of Rochester researchers studied stroke patients who experienced vision loss and found that the patients retained some visual abilities immediately after the stroke but these abilities diminished gradually and eventually disappeared permanently after approximately six months. Early intervention in the form of visual training appears to stop this gradual loss of visual processing that stroke victims may experience. It is therefore important for occipital stroke patients to receive visual training early on after a stroke.

Working with the broader stroke community, they identify priorities for stroke research protocols and provide training for stroke researchers. Kessler Foundation, which specializes in research in stroke rehabilitation and neuroimaging, connects with the new network via Columbia University in New York City, one of the regional centers in NIH StrokeNet.

Care is usually assumed as a kinship obligation but the state has long had an interest in framing the carer and caring work.
