[A reflection on the concept of "one health"].
[A reflection on the concept of "one health"]. Rev Peru Med Exp Salud Publica. 2018 Oct-Dec;35(4):657-662 Authors: Ruiz J Abstract The concept of "One Health" has been established in recent years, bringing back an old concept of medical research: the interrelationship between different environments. This concept is considered the most useful approach to understanding the dynamics of infectious diseases and related factors, such as antibiotic resistance. However, the use of this term may not be entirely correct when a number of relevant considerations are not addressed; i.e., the cha...

Authors: Quispe Pari JF, Loyola Almonacid F, Mallma Gomez E, Mallqui Adauto P, Poma Lagos E, Chumbes Perez J, Montalvo R Abstract Hydatidosis is a zoonotic infection that can invade many organs in the human being. Nevertheless, the subcutaneous tissue is the less affected organ by this disease. When this disease appears, little symptomatology is observed, which causes prolonged periods of disease associated to delayed diagnosis and a poor answer to the antiparasitic therapy. [Continuum of care of people living with HIV and gaps in achieving the 90-90-90 goals in Peru].
Authors: Garcia-Fernandez L, Novoa R, Huaman B, Benites C Abstract In 2013, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) proposed, in terms of public health, to end the HIV epidemic by 2030 by achieving the so-called 90-90-90 targets by 2020. This goal will only be possible if coverage in the HIV care continuum indicators is increased. With the methodology proposed by PAHO/WHO, this paper estimates the indicators of the continuum of care in Peru for 2014, consisting of diagnostic coverage, antiretroviral treatment (ART), and viral suppression in people living with HIV (PLHIV). Of the 72,000 PLHIV estimat...

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of chloroquine (CQ) on human lymphocytes through the Comet Assay. Lymphocytes were isolated from peripheral blood samples obtained from three healthy, non-smoking donors aged 24 to 30 years. The isolated lymphocytes were exposed for one hour to various treatments: hydrogen peroxide 2.5% (positive control), saline buffer phosphate 1X (negative control) and chloroquine at concentrations of 0 µg/ml, 0.25 µg/ml; 5 µg/ml and 300 µg/ml. The averages of the percentage of DNA in the comet tail, moment of tail and moment of Olive's tail were recorded, wit...

Authors: Vera AM, Casadiego OA, Mantilla JC, Escobar P Abstract The effectiveness of various pharmaceutical formulations of ketoconazole was evaluated in experimental models of cutaneous leishmaniasis (LC) in BALB C mice. Topical gel, lipogel, and cream formulations containing permeation enhancers and different concentrations of ketoconazole were prepared. Stability, toxicity and anti-Leishmania activity were determined in vitro. In addition, the effectiveness of topically applied formulations in LC-infected mice infected with Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis was evaluated in vivo. Cream formulations were addition...
