Authors: Benitez-Restrepo CC, Arias-Ortiz NE, Arboleda-Ruiz WA Abstract OBJECTIVE: To estimate the cervical cancer incidence and survival rates by histological subtype and stage in Manizales, Colombia during 2008-2012; and to compare the survival rate to the one from the previous five years. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using population-based data, incidence rates by age were standardized for each histological subtype. Active and passive follow-up was performed to determine vital status and cause of death at 60 months. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox models were adjusted to estimate overall survival by each covariant...

In vitro cytotoxic and genotoxic effect of the crude and ethanolic extract from the rhizome of Curcuma longa L.
CONCLUSIONS: The crude and ethanolic extracts of Curcuma longa L. demonstrate different in vitro cytotoxic effects for the human tumor cell lines DU-145 and HT-29; similar to the standard curcumin compound. The crude extract of Curcuma longa L. shows a potent genotoxic in vitro activity against human genomic DNA; this type of effect is not produced by the ethanolic extract. In vitro inhibitory effect of aluminum phthalocyanine tetrasulfonate chloride against Leishmania (Viannia) Peruviana and Leishmania (Viannia) Braziliensis.
CONCLUSIONS: Photodynamic therapy using AlPcClS4 against Leishmania species showed encouraging results, mainly on Leishmania (V.) peruviana, suggesting a potential use as an alternative or complement to the usual treatment of tegumentary leishmaniasis. However, new trials are still required to determine the selectivity index for the intracellular form of the parasite, and to develop methods to facilitate the efficient entry of the molecule into the host cell and the parasite. Cytotoxic activity of the chloroform fraction of Piper aduncum and its effect on the cell cycle in gastric cancer cell lines.
CONCLUSIONS: PAMoCl contains secondary metabolites with cytotoxic activity that have an effect on the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, in two gastric cancer cell lines, both primary and metastatic. The results of this study will allow us to deepen the search for more effective active ingredients found in PAMoCl for eliminating gastric cancer cells, but with less toxicity for healthy cells. Fifteen different sequence types were identified. It was found that the ST3 genotype, which is found in the pandemic clone, was the most abundant, with 52% (n=53); followed by ST120, with 23.5% (n=24); and the CC345 clonal complex, ...
