Increased muscle tone and contracture late after ischemic stroke
ConclusionsOne ‐third of patients with ischemic stroke before 70 years of age showed increased muscle tone at 7‐year follow‐up. Half of them also had classical spasticity. Age, arm paresis, aphasia, and facial palsy at index stroke were predictors of increased muscle tone poststroke.

PON1 (Paraoxonase 1) Q192R gene polymorphism in ischemic stroke among North Indian population
Conclusion: PON1 Q192R gene polymorphism is not associated with an increased risk of acute ischemic stroke in the North Indian population. Further studies with a larger sample size are needed before PON1 Q192R gene polymorphism can be considered as a genetic risk factor for ischemic stroke.

Smartphone-based telestroke Vs & #8220;Stroke Physician & #8221; led acute stroke management (SMART INDIA): A protocol for a cluster-randomized trial
Conclusion: SMART INDIA assesses whether the low-cost Telestroke model is superior to the stroke physician model in achieving acute stroke care delivery. The results of this study can be utilized in national programs for stroke and can be a role model for stroke care delivery in low- and middle-Income countries. (CTRI/2021/11/038196)

Genetic variation at the IGF1 locus shows association to post-stroke outcome and to circulating IGF-I.
CONCLUSION: Variation in rs7136446 of the IGF1 gene associates with post-stroke outcome in relatively young IS patients. Also, rs7136446 associates with s-IGF-I in controls but not in IS, which indicates that IS perturbs a normal genetic impact on s-IGF-I levels. PMID: 24005314 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Stroke Chameleons and Stroke Mimics in the Emergency Department
AbstractPurpose of ReviewWe discuss the frequency of stroke misdiagnosis in the emergency department (ED), identify common diagnostic pitfalls, describe strategies to reduce diagnostic error, and detail ongoing research.Recent FindingsThe National Academy of Medicine has re-defined and highlighted the importance of diagnostic errors for patient safety. Recent rates of stroke under-diagnosis (false-negative cases, “stroke chameleons”) range from 2–26% and 30–43% for stroke over-diagnosis (false-positive cases, “stroke mimics”). Failure to diagnosis stroke can preclude time-sensitive treatments and has been assoc...

Long ‐term progression of white matter hyperintensities in ischemic stroke
ConclusionsAge and marked WMH at index stroke, but not stroke subtype, predicted long ‐term WMH progression after ischemic stroke before 70 years of age, whereas age and hypertension predicted acquisition of marked WMH in those with no or only mild WMH at baseline.

Longitudinal Study Reveals Long-Term Proinflammatory Proteomic Signature After Ischemic Stroke Across Subtypes
CONCLUSIONS: We found inflammation-related proteins that were differentially regulated in ischemic stroke cases compared with controls only in the acute phase and others that remained elevated also at later time points. This latter group of proteins could reflect underlying pathophysiological processes of relevance. Future studies both in terms of disease risk and prognostication are warranted.PMID:35686557 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.121.038349

Knowledge, attitude, and practice in relation to stroke: A community-based study from Kolkata, West Bengal, India
Conclusions: Persons from both SAF and non-SAF groups are aware about stroke but possess lesser knowledge about the many symptoms of stroke and risk factors, indicating the necessity of enhancement of existence knowledge on symptoms for better diagnosis and of risk factors for better prevention.

Clinical and Neuroimaging Features of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Cancer Patients
Background: The occurrence of acute ischemic stroke in cancer patients is not unusual. In clinical practice, acute ischemic stroke with cancer usually cannot be diagnosed promptly due to lack of specific markers. But for cancer patients, advanced prevention, accurate diagnosis and proper treatment of acute ischemic stroke are very important. The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical and neuroimaging features of acute ischemic stroke in patients with cancer. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of all cancer-associated acute ischemic stroke patients (n = 46) admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of ...

Association of APOE gene polymorphism with stroke patients from rural Eastern India
Conclusions: There is significant association of APOE gene polymorphism in stroke patients of ethnic Bengali population. The E4 allele increases significant risk for development of ischemic strokes, and it also plays nonsignificant increase in trend in hemorrhagic strokes.

Akut retinanekr ózis és ischaemiás stroke társulása
We report the case of a 65-year-old male patient with symptoms of acute retinal necrosis at the Department of Ophthalmology, Semmelweis University. The clinical picture fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and after 3 days of the immediately initiated adequate therapy, contralateral hemiparesis appeared, that was confirmed as an ipsilateral stroke by imaging study. The PCR analysis of an intraocular sample confirmed the presence of VZV. Mild anti-VZV IgA positivity was observed in the cerebrospinal fluid sample. Based on the current ophthalmic disease, the associated stroke along...
