Adult offspring and their socioeconomic resources for development and survival of stroke: A Swedish and Danish nationwide register-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Adult offspring socioeconomic resources are, independently of how we measure them and of individual socioeconomic characteristics, associated with development of stroke in old age in both Denmark and Sweden. The relationships between offspring socioeconomic resources and death after stroke are present especially after the acute phase and most pronounced for educational level as a measure of offspring socioeconomic resources.PMID:36732922 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231152352

Assessing awareness of appropriate responses to symptoms of stroke
Conclusion: There appears to be high awareness of the appropriate response to take for stroke symptoms among this sample, however this does not translate into actions when individuals experience a potential stroke symptom.Practice implications: Education campaigns should be targeted towards individuals without a family history of stroke.

Exertional heat stroke in a young military trainee: is it preventable?
Conclusion It is clear that heat stroke does occur in military trainees while preventive strategies are being practiced. It is important for those who provide healthcare to soldiers to provide proper advice on how to identify impending heat stroke prior to any exercises resulting in severe physical exertion. Further, treating physicians should educate all military trainees about preventive strategies.

Attitudes toward anticoagulant treatment among nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients at high risk of stroke and low risk of bleed
Conclusion: Results suggest that many AF patients who are at high risk of stroke but at low risk of bleed may not be receiving AC due to potentially inaccurate beliefs about risk. This study also found that AF patients place trust in physicians above other factors such as cost when making treatment decisions. Increased education of patients by physicians on the risks and benefits may be a simple strategy to improve outcomes. Care Coordination for Community Transitions for Individuals Post-stroke Returning to Low-Resource Rural Communities
AbstractHigh rates of hospital readmissions have been shown within 12 months post-discharge from inpatient rehabilitation following stroke. Multiple studies coupled with our previous work indicate a need for care support for stroke survivors ’ transitions to the community. The Kentucky Care Coordination for Community Transitions (KC3T) program was developed to provide access to medical, social, and environmental services to support community transitions for individuals with neurological conditions and their caregivers living in Kentucky. This program assessment was conducted to determine the effectiveness of using a spec...

Ethical issues relating to the inclusion of relatives as clients in the post-stroke rehabilitation process as perceived by patients, relatives and health professionals
Conclusion/practice implications: The needs of relatives are well known. The next step is to legitimize their right to receive services and to acknowledge the combined clinical and ethical value of including them post-stroke. Interdisciplinary health care approaches and communication skills should be addressed.

Burden in caregivers of long-term stroke survivors: prevalence and determinants at 6 months and 5 years after stroke
The demographic ageing of societies and decreasing early stroke fatality rates have resulted in an approximately 84% increase in the absolute number of stroke survivors in the past few decades [1]. Nowadays, around 33 million stroke patients live worldwide and a sizable proportion of them suffer from moderate or severe disability [1]. According to recent studies, significant functional limitations are noted in 40-45% of the survivors in the first months after a stroke [2,3] and in around 30% after 5 years [4,5].
