The relationship between magnesium levels and mortality in the respiratory intensive care unit
This study aims to define the effects of magnesium levels on patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) regarding length of stay in the ICU, length of mechanical ventilation (MV), and 28-day mortality. The following data were collected during initial assessment of patients admitted to the ICU with acute respiratory failure (ARF). Demographic data, magnesium and potassium levels, Charlson's Comorbidity Index (CCI), Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores, length of MV, length of hospital stay in the ICU, 28-day mortality, and ICU discharge status. ...

Clinical Effects of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Treating Severe Preeclampsia and Its Influence on Maternal and Infant Outcomes after Cesarean Section under Combined Lumbar and Epidural Anesthesia
CONCLUSION: The combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine can reduce the blood pressure of a patient with SPE. After the combined spinal-epidural anesthesia and cesarean section, it can significantly improve the maternal and infant outcomes and renal function, reduce inflammatory factors levels and body oxidative stress, and increase the activities of antioxidant enzymes.PMID:34790247 | PMC:PMC8592741 | DOI:10.1155/2021/6366914

Higher magnesium intake reduces risk of impaired glucose and insulin metabolism, and progression from prediabetes to diabetes in middle-aged Americans.
Conclusions:Magnesium intake may be particularly beneficial in offsetting risk of developing diabetes among those at high risk. Magnesium's long-term associations with non-steady state (dynamic) measures deserve further research. PMID: 24089547 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Correlation between Traditional Chinese Medicine symptom patterns and serum concentration of zinc, iron, copper and magnesium in patients with hepatitis B and associated liver cirrhosis.
CONCLUSION: The serum zinc and magnesium concentrations correlated with certain TCM patterns of symptoms in patients with HBV-induced liver cirrhosis and CHB. It may be helpful to interpret the pathogenic change in the TCM symptom patterns in liver cirrhosis and CHB, and also to conduct clinical treatment of the diseases based on identified TCM patterns. Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist Improves Patient-Ventilator Synchrony in a Patient With Tetanus and Unstable Diaphragmatic Electrical Activity.
Abstract A 79-y-old man with generalized tetanus was admitted to the ICU. A left-forearm wound was surgically debrided, and the wound was closed. On postoperative day 1, after the patient experienced opisthotonos and convulsions, endotracheal intubation was performed. Propofol and diazepam were infused but failed to stop the convulsions. Morphine, midazolam, dantrolene, and rocuronium were used to ameliorate the muscle spasms. Magnesium sulfate was also infused. On postoperative day 15, patient-ventilator asynchrony was apparent. The patient showed recurrent tachypnea and bradypnea, which seemed typical of Cheyne-...
