Fraxin in Combination with Dexamethasone Attenuates LPS-Induced Liver and Heart Injury and Their Anticytokine Activity in Mice
CONCLUSIONS: All interventions used in this study significantly reduced interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels and reduced LPS-induced liver and cardiac damage. The combination (FD) did not result in an evident superiority of either agent. More research is required to identify the possible usefulness of these agents in treating hyperinflammatory diseases, such as cytokine storms, in future clinical practice.PMID:37727368 | PMC:PMC10506875 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5536933

Enhanced immune responses in dexamethasone immunosuppressed male rats supplemented with herbal extracts, chitosan nanoparticles, and their conjugates
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Aug 11:126170. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126170. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNowadays, the world is challenged with highly contagious diseases, one of their preliminary virulence mechanisms is the suppression of innate immunity. Therefore, promoting natural immunity is a good precautionary strategy. we investigated and compared the effects of several natural herbal extracts -Moringa oleifera, Ziziphus spina christi, and Saussurea costus, and chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs)- as well as conjugated extracts with CS NPs on the immunological parameters of dexamethasone immunosuppressed (IS) male r...

The Alleviating Impacts of Quercetin on Inflammation and Oxidant-antioxidant Imbalance in Rats with Allergic Asthma
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2023 Apr 30;22(2):138-149. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v22i2.12675.ABSTRACTAsthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways. We assessed the anti-inflammatory and antioxidative impacts of quercetin, a plant derivative, on inflammatory and oxidative indices in lung tissue and serum of rats with asthma.Asth ma was induced by ovalbumin. Rats were divided into 4 groups: control, asthma+vehicle (Receieved normal saline), asthma+dexamethasone, and asthma+quercetin. After asthma induction, quercetin (50 mg/kg) and dexamethasone (2.5 mg/kg) were injected intraperitoneally once daily for 1 week. On day 50, lu...

Ameliorative Effect of Aqueous and Hydroalcoholic Extracts of < em > Scrophularia striata < /em > Boiss. on Murine Model of Experimental Colitis
CONCLUSIONS: S. striata, especially SSHE, which also contained more phenolic compounds, had an ameliorating effect on ulcerative colitis and possibly exerts this effect through its antioxidant, antiinflammatory and wound healing properties. Further investigations are required to introduce this plant as a novel alternative herbal drug for colitis treatment.PMID:37288016 | PMC:PMC10241627 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_151_22

The coumaric acid and syringic acid ameliorate acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis in rats via modulator of Nrf2/HO-1 and pro-inflammatory cytokines
CONCLUSION: The coumaric acid and syringic acid, especially at high doses, may be an alternative strategy for the treatment of UC by the reduction of TNF-α and IL-1β levels and upregulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.PMID:37182450 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110309

Effect of < em > Allium cepa < /em > extract on total and differential WBC, TP level, oxidant and antioxidant biomarkers, and lung pathology in ovalbumin-sensitized rats
Allergol Immunopathol (Madr). 2023 May 1;51(3):153-162. doi: 10.15586/aei.v51i3.532. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that Allium cepa (A. cepa) has relaxant and anti-inflammatory effects. In this research, A. cepa extract was examined for its prophylactic effect on lung inflammation and oxidative stress in sensitized rats.METHODS: Total and differential white blood cell (WBC) count in the blood, serum levels of oxidant and antioxidant biomarkers, total protein (TP) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and lung pathology were investigated in control group (C), sensitized group (S), and se...
