Effect of chemotherapy and different chemotherapy regimens on bone health among Chinese breast cancer women in different menstrual status: a self-control study
CONCLUSION: Chemotherapy might induce lumbar vertebrae BMD loss and spine osteoporosis with regimen differences among Chinese BC patients. Calcium/VitD supplementation could improve bone turnover markers, bone metabolism indicators, and bone mineral density. Early interventions on bone health are needed for BC patients during chemotherapy.PMID:37642751 | DOI:10.1007/s00520-023-07960-8

Accelerated bone loss in older men with severe abdominal aortic calcification - the prospective MINOS study
CONCLUSIONS: Severe AAC is associated with faster bone loss in older men and may contribute to the higher fracture risk observed in this population.PMID:37610245 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad459

Physiological declines in sex steroid exposure in relation to changes in body composition in healthy men - a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Aging leads to increases in fat mass indices and insulin resistance, whereas changes in parameters of lean mass are less unequivocal. In healthy adult men physiological changes in sex steroid exposure clearly correlate with changes in adiposity but not so with lean mass, insulin resistance or grip strength.PMID:37288537 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvad059

Age but not menopausal status is linked to lower resting energy expenditure
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that REEadj declines with age in women before late adulthood, also when controlling partially for genetic background, and that menopause may not contribute to this decline.PMID:37265230 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad321

Reversibility in male idiopathic osteoporosis possible
Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep. 2023 Apr 19;2023(2):22-0407. doi: 10.1530/EDM-22-0407. Print 2023 Apr 1.ABSTRACTSUMMARY: A 44-year-old athletic man presented in 2009 with severe low back pain. Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry revealed severe osteoporosis; serum testosterone was 189 ng/dL while serum estradiol (E2) measured by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry was 8 pg/mL. DNA was extracted and sequenced from a blood sample from the patient since his maternal first cousin also had low bone mass and both patients were screened for aromatase dysfunction by PCR analysis for the CYP19A1 gene, which encodes aromatase. ...

Effects of resistance training on bone mineral density and resting serum hormones in female collegiate distance runners: a randomized controlled pilot trial
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that 16 weeks of RT in female collegiate distance runners may increase total body BMD.PMID:36884123 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.14571-3

Effect of hormone replacement therapy on intervertebral disc height
CONCLUSIONS: These results are consistent with previous findings of a beneficial effect of estrogen on discs. This may be in part responsible for the anti-fracture efficacy of HRT on vertebral fractures.PMID:36626929 | DOI:10.1080/13697137.2022.2158728

Effects of estradiol on bone in men undergoing androgen deprivation therapy: a randomised placebo-controlled trial
CONCLUSION: Relative to placebo, E2 treatment increases some measures of bone density and bone strength in men and reduces bone remodelling, effects that occur in absence of endogenous T.PMID:35666800 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-22-0227
