A community-based study of stroke code users in northern portugal.
Conclusions: The criteria for accessing the Stroke Code are currently restrictive. Though the Stroke Code is accessed in case of more severe patient's conditions, the proportion of patients treated with fibrinolysis is relatively high in comparison with other studies. Readmissions and Mortality During the First Year After Stroke —Data From a Population-Based Incidence Study
Conclusions: Almost one-third of FELS survivors were readmitted/dead 1 year after their FELS-IH. This outcome persisted after the first months after stroke hospitalization in all stroke subtypes. More than half of readmissions were considered potentially avoidable or stroke related.

Measurement properties of the Reaching Performance Scale for Stroke.
Conclusions: Reaching Performance Scale for Stroke showed excellent reliability and redundant internal consistency. The construct validity with the Fugl-Meyer scale was strong. Reaching Performance Scale for Stroke was able to discriminate individuals with different levels of upper limb impairment. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION Post-stroke individuals develop compensatory strategies to perform reaching movements with the paretic upper limb. The Reaching Performance Scale for Stroke provides a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the reach-to-grasp movement. The Reaching Performance Scale for Stroke is suitable for ...

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic in stroke code activation and time from symptom onset to hospital arrival in a Portuguese comprehensive stroke centre
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 related factors probably reduced healthcare services utilization, and delayed emergency calls and hospital arrival after stroke onset. These highlight the importance of health education to improve the effectiveness of medical assistance. The preservation of in-hospital times validates the feasibility of the protected stroke code protocol.PMID:34291445 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7303.2020445

Stroke Communication Scale based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF - SCS).
Conclusion: The Stroke Communication Scale allows a comprehensive clinical evaluation helping in the development of individualized treatment programs in post-stroke in a biopsychosocial approach centered on the patient. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION Communication disorders post-stroke can be an important social barrier. An assessment based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health offers an integral view of different perspectives of health. The Stroke Communication Scale is a holistic instrument to assess communication, participation, and functioning. The Stroke Communication Scale allows...

Admission and Readmission/Death Patterns in Hospitalized and Non-hospitalized First-Ever-in-a-Lifetime Stroke Patients During the First Year: A Population-Based Incidence Study
Conclusion: About one-third of stroke patients were not hospitalized, and the readmission/death rate was higher in HospS patients. Still, that readmission/death rate difference was likely due to other factors than hospitalization itself. Our research provides novel information that may help implement targeted health-related policies to reduce the burden of stroke and its complications.

Nationwide Access to Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Portugal
CONCLUSION: The overall national rate of EVT in the first two years after the organization of EVT-capable centers is one of the highest among European countries, however, significant regional disparities were documented. Moreover, stroke-onset-to-first-door times and in-hospital procedural times in the EVT centers were comparable to those reported in the randomized controlled trials performed in high-volume tertiary hospitals.PMID:34499849 | DOI:10.20344/amp.15031

Access to stroke care in Europe: results of a vignette approach
ConclusionsWhile stroke related services are formally covered in almost all countries, considerable access problems exist in several countries. Future cross-country surveys of access to stroke care should collect quantitative data related to proportions of patients receiving particular services as well as qualitative data on access barriers.
