Safety and Effectiveness of the New Generation APERIO ® Hybrid Stent-retriever Device in Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke
ConclusionIn the specific example of the APERIO® stent-retriever device, we observed that further technological developments of the new generation device were not associated with disadvantages with respect to typical observational indicators of safety or effectiveness.

What do people with lung cancer and stroke expect from patient navigation? A qualitative study in Germany
Conclusion For chronic and complex diseases—as is the case with lung cancer and stroke—it appears less important for navigators to fulfil disease-specific tasks. Rather, they should ensure that patients’ more general needs, in relation to social, practical and emotional support, are met in a way that suits their individual wishes. Following these results, patient navigation programmes might be designed to include generic elements, which should then be adapted to the infrastructure in a particular healthcare region and to the particularities of a specific healthcare system.

Arterial stiffness and functional capacity in individuals with chronic stroke: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Arterial stiffness of the paretic upper limb has a negative association with functional capacity.PMID:35105257 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2022.2031364

Comparison of porcine and human vascular diameters for the optimization of interventional stroke training and research
This study aimed to determine a porcine weight group, in which the arterial diameters most closely match human cerebral artery diameters, and thus optimize the porcine in-vivo model for neuroendovascular purposes. A group of 42 German Landrace swine (45–74 kg) was divided into four subgroups according to their weight. Angiographic images of the swine were used to determine the arterial diameter of the main branches of the subclavian artery: axillary artery, brachial artery, exter nal thoracic artery, subscapular artery (at two different segments), suprascapular artery, caudal circumflex humeral artery, thoracodorsal arte...

Carotid artery direct access for mechanical thrombectomy: the Carotid Artery Puncture Evaluation (CARE) study
Conclusion In this large multicentric study, DCP was scantly performed for vascular access to perform MT (0.39%) in patients with AIS-LVO and had a high rate of complications (18.5%). Our results provide arguments for not closing the cervical access by manual compression after MT.

Safety and effectiveness of rivaroxaban for prevention of stroke in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: analysis of routine clinical data from four countries
CONCLUSIONS: Incidences of intracranial bleeding were generally lower with rivaroxaban than with SOC, whereas incidences of gastrointestinal and urogenital bleeding were generally higher. The safety profile of rivaroxaban for NVAF in routine practice is consistent with findings from randomized controlled trials and other studies.PMID:36795067 | DOI:10.1080/14740338.2023.2181334

Radiation Exposure in Interventional Stroke Treatment
ConclusionWe conducted a  retrospective study on radiation exposure during MT in Germany. Based on the results of more than 41,000 procedures, we observed that the DRL of 14,000 cGy·cm2 is currently appropriate but may be lowered over the next years. Furthermore, we identified several factors that contribute to high radiation exposure. This can aid in detecting the cause of an exceeded DRL and optimize the treatment workflow.

Association of age with 1-year outcome in patients with acute ischaemic stroke treated with thrombectomy: real-world analysis in 18 506 patients
Conclusions In this large ‘real-world’ cohort, outcomes after mechanical thrombectomy were strongly associated with age. Of patients aged ≥80 years more than half were dead and less than one-fifth were functionally independent at 1 year. Certain comorbidities and ventilation >48 hours were associated with even worse outcomes.

Impact of ongoing intravenous thrombolysis until completion of endovascular treatment in large vessel occlusion stroke patients
ConclusionOur findings suggest that ongoing IVT until ET completion has a favorable impact on both clinical and angiographic outcomes, as well as on periprocedural conditions, regardless of the overall time intervals involved. Therefore, rapid ET after IVT should be sought in order to take advantage of the additive effect of ongoing IVT during ET. Future studies should consider IVT timing in the context of ET as a potential confounder and treatment target.

Predictors of In-Hospital Death After Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Clinical Sciences
Background and Purpose—To identify predictors of in-hospital mortality in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and to estimate their impact. Methods—Retrospective analysis of prospective data from a nationwide multicenter registry on all aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage cases admitted to a tertiary neurosurgical department in Switzerland (Swiss SOS [Swiss Study on Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage]; 2009–2015). Both clinical and radiological independent predictors of in-hospital mortality were identified, and their effect size was determined by calculating adjusted odds ratios (aORs) using multivariate ...

Transfer effects on spoken sentence comprehension and functional communication after working memory training in stroke aphasia
Publication date: Available online 10 February 2018 Source:Journal of Neurolinguistics Author(s): Lilla Zakariás, Christos Salis, Isabell Wartenburger Recent treatment protocols have been successful in improving working memory (WM) in individuals with aphasia. However, the evidence to date is small and the extent to which improvements in trained tasks of WM transfer to untrained memory tasks, spoken sentence comprehension, and functional communication is yet poorly understood. To address these issues, we conducted a multiple baseline study with three German-speaking individuals with chronic post-stroke aphasia. Participa...
