Pharmacovigilance follow-up of patients in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic
DISCUSSION: This survey, based on real-time pharmacological and medical assessment of ADRs and weekly meetings in a specific national committee, made it possible to identify relevant safety signals which contribute to patient care with no delay. The main safety signal highlighted was serious cardiac damage under hydroxychloroquine, alone or combined with azithromycin and also with lopinavir/ritonavir. This signal has contributed to the evolution of the recommendations for these 2 drugs. The methodology of this survey has been taken over and is still going on for the pharmacovigilance monitoring of vaccines against COVID-19...

Waldenstr öm disease: News and perspectives in 2022
Bull Cancer. 2022 Oct 10:S0007-4551(22)00350-2. doi: 10.1016/j.bulcan.2022.08.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWaldenström's disease is a B-cell neoplasm characterized by the accumulation of lymphoplasmacytic cells (LPCs) in the bone marrow, and more rarely in the lymph nodes and the spleen, which produce a monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM) protein. The diagnosis requires the identification of LPCs in the bone marrow, using specific markers in flow cytometry. The MYD88L265P mutation is found in 95% of cases and the CXCR4 mutation in 30-40% of cases. These markers must be sought because they have a diagnostic and prognos...

Prenatal dexamethasone treatment for classic 21-hydroxylase deficiency in Europe
CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals a high international variability and discrepancy on the use of Pdex treatment across Europe. It highlights the importance of a European cooperation initiative for a joint international prospective trial to establish evidence based guidelines on prenatal diagnostics, treatment and follow up of pregnancies at risk for CAH.PMID:35235536 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-21-0554

Comparative vaccine effectiveness against severe COVID-19 over time in US hospital administrative data: a case-control study
In this study, we used comprehensive hospitalisation data to estimate vaccine effectiveness over time.METHODS: In this case-control study, we used data from a large US health-care system to estimate vaccine effectiveness against severe SARS-CoV-2 infection and examined variation based on time since vaccination, vaccine type, and patients' demographic and clinical characteristics. We compared trends in attenuation of protection across vaccines and used a multivariable model to identify key factors associated with risk for severe breakthrough infection. Patients were considered to have severe COVID-19 if they were admitted t...

Fungal infections in mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19 during the first wave: the French multicentre MYCOVID study
This study shows the high prevalence of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis and candidaemia and high mortality associated with pr/pb CAPA in mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19. These findings highlight the need for active surveillance of fungal pathogens in patients with severe COVID-19.FUNDING: Pfizer.PMID:34843666 | DOI:10.1016/S2213-2600(21)00442-2
