2023 Canadian Thoracic Society Guideline on Pharmacotherapy in Patients With Stable COPD
Chest. 2023 Sep 6:S0012-3692(23)05275-3. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.08.014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic obstructive pulmonary disease patient care must include confirming a diagnosis with postbronchodilator spirometry. Because of the clinical heterogeneity and the reality that airflow obstruction assessed by spirometry only partially reflects disease severity, a thorough clinical evaluation of the patient should include assessment of symptom burden and risk of exacerbations that permits the implementation of evidence-informed pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions. This guideline provides recommendations...

Pesticides Inhibit Retinoic Acid Catabolism in PLHC-1 and ZFL Fish Hepatic Cell Lines
Chem Res Toxicol. 2022 May 24. doi: 10.1021/acs.chemrestox.2c00050. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe population of yellow perch (Perca flavescens) in lake Saint-Pierre (QC, Canada) has been dramatically declining since 1995 without any sign of recovery. Previous studies have shown disrupted retinoid (vitamin A) metabolic pathways in these fish, possibly due to the influence of pesticides. Our study aimed to evaluate the impact of some herbicides and neonicotinoids on retinoic acid catabolism in the fish hepatic cell lines PLHC-1 and ZFL. We hypothesized that pesticides accelerate the catabolism of retinoic acid through ox...

A Systematic Review of Nutraceuticals for the Treatment of Bipolar Disorder: Une revue syst ématique des nutraceutiques pour le traitement du trouble bipolaire.
CONCLUSION: Given nutraceuticals are tolerable and accessible, they may be useful as potential adjunctive treatments for BD. Nutraceuticals targeting neuroinflammation or mitochondrial activity may have the most potential for the depressive phase. However, further studies are required to determine efficacy. Auranofin, an Anti-rheumatic Gold Drug, Aggravates the Radiation-Induced Acute Intestinal Injury in Mice
Conclusion In this study, we found that a non-toxic dose of auranofin significantly aggravated the severity of the radiation-induced intestinal injury. This suggests that auranofin treatment can be an independent factor that influences the risk of intestinal complications after pelvic or abdominal radiotherapy. Ethics Statement All the protocols used in this study were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of the Korean Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences (IACUC permit number: KIRAMS217-0007). Author Contributions H-JL, JS, and Y-BL designed the experiments. EL and JK conducted the exp...
