The role of invasive diagnostics and its impact on the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy: A systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Targeted therapies are more effective when started early before myocardial injury becomes irreversible. Unfortunately, non-invasive techniques are not precise enough to decide if and which targeted therapy is required. Therefore endomyocardial biopsy should be mainly recognized as the essential diagnostic tool and should not be postponed. PMID: 27589574 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Why Is Reverse Takotsubo "Reverse"?
CONCLUSIONS: rTTC is a distinct presentation from the classic TTC. Remarkable differences exist between both forms in terms of mean age, sex, electrocardiogram presentation, troponin levels, and mortality. PMID: 28464182 [PubMed - in process]

The importance of two metabolic syndrome diagnostic criteria and body fat distribution in predicting clinical severity and prognosis of acute myocardial infarction.
CONCLUSIONS: MetS (NCEP-ATP III) and several central obesity indices are superior to BMI in predicting acute STEMI severity (clinical presentation, in-hospital complications, severity of coronary disease), while WC and MetS (IDF) have no influence on it. They all have no influence on prognosis. PMID: 28721147 [PubMed]

Central Serous Chorioretinopathy in African Americans at Wilmer Eye Institute.
CONCLUSIONS: CSC has been reported as exceedingly rare in African Americans, but our study suggests that CSC may be underestimated in this population. A large nationally representative population based study is needed to determine true racial prevalence to ensure that the diagnosis of CSC is not overlooked in African Americans. Possible Effect of Video and Written Education on Anxiety of Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study results suggest that education given by the nurse before the procedure reduces level of anxiety and affects physiological variables positively. PMID: 30316694 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cardiac allograft vasculopathy after heart transplantation: current prevention and treatment strategies.
CONCLUSIONS: Early detection is the key to therapy management. It enables early identification and diagnosis of patients with CAV, who would gain the most from prompt treatment. Further investigation is needed to elucidate the multifactorial pathophysiological process of CAV, develop detection methods and find treatments that prevent or slow disease progression. Current status of endovascular treatment for dural arteriovenous fistulae in the anterior cranial fossa: A systematic literature review.
Authors: Xu K, Ji T, Li C, Yu J Abstract Anterior cranial fossa (ACF) dural arteriovenous fistulae (DAVFs) are rare, and a systematic review of the literature is lacking. Such a review is necessary, however, so a systematic PubMed search of related studies was performed. Twenty-four studies were identified, reporting on 48 patients, of whom 39 had definite age and sex information and 33 (84.6%, 33/39) were male. The afflicted patients were between 37 and 80 years old (mean 55.6). Among the 48 patients, 28 (58.3%, 28/48) primarily presented with intracranial hemorrhage, 47 (97.9%, 47/48) had feeding arteries from th...

What Are Pulmonary Embolism Risk Factors?
Discussion Pulmonary embolism (PE) is potentially life-threatening but fortunately rare event especially in the pediatric population. It was first described in children in 1861. PE is likely underreported because of minimal or non-specific clinical symptoms. The incidence is estimated at 0.05-4.2% with the 4.2% based on autopsy reports. It is probably also increasing as more central venous catheters (CVC) are used, and more children are surviving previously poor prognostic diseases. There is a bimodal distribution with cases < 1 year (especially neonates which account for ~50% of this group) and in teenagers. Neonates a...

Clinical importance of the superficial temporal artery in neurovascular diseases: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review.
Authors: Hou K, Guo Y, Xu K, Yu J Abstract The superficial temporal artery (STA) plays a very important role in neurovascular diseases and procedures. However, until now, no comprehensive review of the role of STA in neurovascular diseases from a neurosurgical perspective has ever been published. To review research on the clinical importance of STA in neurovascular diseases, a literature search was performed using the PubMed database. Articles were screened for suitability and data relevance. This paper was organized following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline...

A quasi-experimental study examining QR code-based video education program on anxiety, adherence, and satisfaction in coronary angiography patients.
Conclusion: Patient education programs on smartphone that can be accessed multiple times by scanning a QR code can be effective and convenient approach to reducing anxiety and enhancing adherence to instructions among Chinese coronary angiography patients. Hospitals and clinicians should consider more investments in developing such patient education programs and also help improve ehealth literacy. Impact statement: QR code-based Video education program can improve anxiety and adherence and satisfaction among coronary angiography patients. PMID: 32814500 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Future scenarios and opportunities for interventional radiology in the post COVID-19 era.
Abstract Pandemic outbreak has led health systems worldwide into a rapid reorganization in response to coronavirus infections, forcing interventional radiology units to adapt. Interventional procedures have evolved in number, type and setting and have arguably been optimized as a direct consequence of this pandemic; a result that will undoubtedly lead to radical change within the specialty. This paper explores the future of interventional radiology from various perspectives, and forecasts the new opportunities that will be presented, from the adaptation of the interventional radiology staff and angiography suite, ...

Efficacy and safety of biological agents in the treatment of patients with Takayasu arteritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the beneficial effects of biological agents are encouraging in enhancing disease remission, reducing the levels of acute phase inflammation markers and decreasing the treatment doses of GC in patients with TAK, there is still a risk of relapse. More refined studies with larger cohorts are necessary before drawing a definitive opinion. PMID: 33506914 [PubMed - in process]
