Changes of collective orientation through a medical student ’s anaesthesia simulation course – simulation-based training study with non-technical skills debriefing versus medical debriefing
Non-technical skills (NTS) are known to have a positive impact on quality of medical care. The team performance enhancing behaviour, as an example for NTS, is termed “Collective Orientation” (CO). In this stud...

Opioids for chronic pain: a knowledge assessment of nonpain specialty providers
Conclusion: Health care providers demonstrated gaps in knowledge about the use of opioids for chronic pain. Lower scores on clinically based opioid questions may indicate an opportunity to provide focused educational content about this area of practice. This information could be helpful in designing future educational modules for nonpain providers. Keywords: chronic pain, opioids, prescription, continuing medical education

Evaluation of Open Access Websites for Anesthesia Education
CONCLUSIONS: We found 37 open access websites for anesthesia education available on the Internet. Many of these websites may serve as a valuable resource for anesthesia clinicians looking for self-directed learning resources and for educators seeking to curate resources into thoughtfully integrated learning experiences. Ongoing efforts are needed to expand the number and improve the existing open access websites, especially with interactivity, to support the education and training of anesthesia providers in even the most resource-limited areas of the world. Our findings may provide recommendations for those educators and o...

Integrating simulation and interpretive description to explore operating room leadership: critical event continuing education
AbstractIn Obstetrics and Gynecologic operating room emergencies, the surgeon cannot both operate and lead a suddenly expanded and redirected team response. However, one of the most often used approaches to interprofessional continuing education designed to improve teams ’ ability to respond to unanticipated critical events still emphasizes surgeon leadership. We developed Explicit Anesthesia and Nurse Distributed (EXPAND) Leadership to imagine a workflow that might better distribute emergency leadership task responsibilities and practices. The purpose of this exp loratory study was to investigate teams’ responses to d...

Effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy Without Local Anesthesia in Patients With Recalcitrant Plantar Fasciitis: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Conclusions: ESWT seems to be particularly effective in relieving pain associated with RPF. ESWT should be considered when traditional treatments have failed. To Claim CME Credits: Complete the self-assessment activity and evaluation online at http://www.physiatry.org/JournalCME CME Objectives: Upon completion of this article, the reader should be able to (1) understand the recovery rates for nonsurgical treatment of plantar fasciitis, (2) understand the role of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) in the treatment of recalcitrant plantar fasciitis, and (3) understand the indications to incorporate ESWT in the treatm...

The Influence of Local Anesthesia Depth on Procedural Pain During Fluoroscopically Guided Lumbar Transforaminal Epidural Injections: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Conclusions Deep local anesthesia to reduce procedural pain during transforaminal epidural steroid injection seems to have no significant clinical benefit compared with conventional subcutaneous local anesthesia. To Claim CME Credits Complete the self-assessment activity and evaluation online at http://www.physiatry.org/JournalCME CME Objectives Reduce procedural pain by considering clinical factors of the patient during fluoroscopically guided lumbar transforaminal epidural injections. Upon completion of this article, the reader should be able to: (1) Understand the potential impact of procedural pain on the perf...

Introduction.
Authors: Giulini SM, Stagnitti F Abstract There is no doubt that postgraduate education and all "professional development activity" is in crisis, not only in our country but in all of Europe. The crisis is on one hand due to a lack of resources which has been evident for more than a decade, and on the other hand due to factors such as organization, culture, and education. Many of the chief medical disciplines such as internal medicine or general surgery, have been literally crushed and replaced by a myriad of subspecialties that have undermined the original unified character of the main disciplines 1. The teaching ...

Suicide deaths among medical students, residents and physicians in India spanning a decade (2010-2019): An exploratory study using on line news portals and Google database
CONCLUSION: Academic stress among medical students and residents, and marital discord in physicians emerged as the key reasons for suicide. However, this preventable domain should be further explored through focused research. This is the first of its kind study from India which attempted to explore this vital yet neglected public health issue using the most feasible and practical method of online news content-based analysis.PMID:33904322 | DOI:10.1177/00207640211011365
