Dermatomal rash after Shingrix vaccination: cause or coincidence?
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2022 May 9;35(5):686-687. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2022.2071118. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTDermatological reactions have been reported following Shingrix vaccine administration in previous published cases, but dermatomal rash after Shingrix vaccination has not been reported in the United States. This case describes a 73-year-old immunocompetent woman with a dermatomal rash after Shingrix recombinant vaccine administration. This case highlights the rare possibility of an acute reaction after Shingrix vaccine administration, which should be recognized. Nonetheless, the vaccine has been shown to be very...

IJERPH, Vol. 16, Pages 3544: Varicella Seroprevalence in Healthcare Workers at a Medical Center Following Changes in National and Local Hospital Vaccination Policies
Conclusions: Despite public health efforts, a small number of healthcare workers were inadequately protected, and antibody titers were lower than required to maintain herd immunity. For effective prevention of nosocomial infection, VZV IgG status should be documented for all HCWs, and susceptible HCWs should be vaccinated to avoid outbreaks. Pre-employment screening and vaccination have increased immunity and need to be conducted to ensure protection of vulnerable patients.

Self-report compared to electronic medical record across eight adult vaccines: Do results vary by demographic factors?
Abstract Immunizations are crucial to the prevention of disease, thus, having an accurate measure of vaccination status for a population is an important guide in targeting prevention efforts. In order to comprehensively assess the validity of self-reported adult vaccination status for the eight most common adult vaccines we conducted a survey of vaccination receipt and compared it to the electronic medical record (EMR), which was used as the criterion standard, in a population of community-dwelling patients in a large healthcare system. In addition, we assessed whether validity varied by demographic factors. The v...

Population-based study of the epidemiology of herpes zoster in Korea.
Authors: Kim YJ, Lee CN, Lim CY, Jeon WS, Park YM Abstract General epidemiological data regarding herpes zoster (HZ) are necessary for treatment and prevention of this disease. In addition, epidemiological data can play an important role in evaluating the efficacy and impact of vaccination. Though several epidemiological studies of HZ in Korea have been conducted, they usually depend on hospital-based data and may not be representative of HZ characteristics all over Korea. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and other epidemiological features of HZ in the general Korean population. We used popul...

Evaluation of a multiplex bead immunoassay for determination of immune status to varicella-zoster virus in medical center students and employees.
This study evaluated an enzyme immunoassay, multiplex bead immunoassay (MBIA), and the anticomplement immunofluorescence test (ACIF) for detecting varicella-zoster virus IgG antibodies in sera from medical center students and employees. Agreement between methods was ≥95%. The MBIA was less sensitive than ACIF, with a negative predictive value of 66.7%. PMID: 25589555 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact assessment of an educational course on vaccinations in a population of medical students
The inadequate formation and knowledge about vaccinations of healthcare workers, including doctors, has certainly contributed to the spread of the vaccine hesitancy in recent years. Therefore, it is essential to improve the level of knowledge of future doctors so that they can deal with any hesitation within the population in order to increase the vaccination coverage. The aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of a course about vaccination on the knowledge of medical students. In order to evaluate the efficacy of a certain lecture about vaccinations on medical students, they were asked to complete an anonymous question...

Smartphone-based active vaccine safety surveillance (SmartVax) at a Swiss adult vaccination clinic - a pilot study
CONCLUSION: Monitoring post-licensure vaccine safety using the active SMS-based surveillance system SmartVax is feasible in Switzerland. We observed a high acceptance in the diverse study population, including healthcare workers and IMID patients. High response rates in the elderly and reliable monitoring almost in real-time make SmartVax a promising tool for COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring.PMID:34908642 | DOI:10.4414/smw.2021.w30090
