‘Snail factors in testicular germ cell tumours and their regulation by the BMP4 signalling pathway’
ConclusionsThis is the first evidence that SNAI1 and SNAI2 are involved in human spermatogenesis, with independent functions. These outcomes demonstrate that SNAI1 and SNAI2 inhibition leads to loss of migratory and viability capacities in seminoma cells. These findings show the potential for therapeutic treatments targeting SNAIL or BMP4 signalling for patients with metastatic testicular germ cell tumours.

Role of promoting inflammation of Kr üppel-like factor 6 in acute kidney injury.
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that (1) KLF6 might be a novel biomarker for early diagnosis of AKI and (2) KLF6 may play a role in promoting inflammation in AKI. PMID: 32698645 [PubMed - in process]

AGE-Induced Suppression of EZH2 Mediates Injury of Podocytes by Reducing H3K27me3.
CONCLUSIONS: Our studies provide a novel pathway how AGEs contribute to podocyte injury and the formation of the so-called metabolic memory in DKD. PMID: 32854097 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AMP-activated protein kinase contributes to cisplatin-induced renal epithelial cell apoptosis and acute kidney injury.
In this study, we demonstrated that cisplatin activates AMPK (Thr172 phosphorylation) in cultured renal tubular epithelial cells in a time-dependent manner, which is associated with p53 phosphorylation. Compound C, a selective AMPK inhibitor, suppressed cisplatin-induced AMPK activation, p53 phosphorylation, Bax induction and caspase 3 activation. Furthermore, silencing AMPK expression by siRNA attenuated cisplatin-induced p53 phosphorylation, Bax induction, and caspase 3 activation. In a mouse model of cisplatin-induced kidney injury, compound C inhibited p53 phosphorylation, Bax expression, caspase 3 activation, and apop...

Effect of Forkhead Box O1 in Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells on Endotoxin-Induced Acute Kidney Injury.
In conclusion, downregulation of FOXO1 in RTECs mediated endotoxin-induced AKI and mitochondrial damage. Overexpression of FOXO1 could improve renal injury and mitochondrial dysfunction, and this effect occurred at least in part as a result of PGC1-α signaling. FOXO1 might be a potential target for the prevention and treatment of endotoxin-induced AKI. PMID: 33356954 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Activation of RAS contributes to peritoneal fibrosis via dysregulation of low-density lipoprotein receptor.
In conclusion, increased intracellular RAS activity impaired lipid homeostasis and induced ECM accumulation in HPMCs by disrupting the LDLr pathway, which contributed to PF. PMID: 33427062 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Suppression of Antiapoptotic Bcl-2 Expression in Human Bladder Tumor Cells Exposed to Hypoxic Environment is Regulated by Caveolin-1-dependent AMPK Activity
CONCLUSIONS: We suggest a new finding for the first time that AMPK activation can regulate Hif-1α induction as well as Hif-1α-induced Cav-1 expression, and the inhibitory effect of anti-apoptotic pathway on the exposure of RT4 cells to hypoxic environment is due to Cav-1-dependent AMPK activity.PMID:33752282 | DOI:10.5213/inj.2040444.222

Autophagosome protects proximal tubular cells from aldosterone-induced senescence through improving oxidative stress
Ren Fail. 2021 Dec;43(1):556-565. doi: 10.1080/0886022X.2021.1902821.ABSTRACTAldosterone exerts an enormous function on proximal tubular cells (PTC) senescence, which is a common pathomechanism contributing to renal dysfunction. Numerous studies have shown that oxidative stress is deeply involved in the pathophysiologic processes of chronic kidney diseases. The study aims to investigate whether autophagy could regulate the process of senescence through oxidative stress in PTC both in vivo and ex vivo. Our results suggested that aldosterone treatment increased the senescence and oxidative stress as evidenced by increased pe...
