Esophageal Eosinophilia Is Common Among Relatives of Eosinophilic Esophagitis Patients
Familial clustering of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) has been described, and we report on the biopsy-assessed prevalence of esophageal eosinophilia (EE) in first-degree family members. The aim was to determine the prevalence of EE in first-degree adult relatives (FDRs) of EoE patients. METHODS: Index EoE patients diagnosed by EE (>15 eosinophils per high-power field) and proton pump inhibitor nonresponsiveness were identified and family trees were constructed. Adult FDRs were invited to undergo upper endoscopy with esophageal biopsies and to complete reflux, dysphagia, and allergy/atopy questionnaires.

Protein expression of TRP channels in the esophagus of patients with gastroesophageal reflux (GER)-associated cough
Conclusions: Cough in GER patients is associated with the increased expression of TRPV4 in the esophagus but not with RE or reflux symptoms. Further studies are needed to elucidate the pathogenesis and precise roles of the increased TRPV4.

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Ambulatory and Operating Room Rhinology Practice in the US.
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 has drastically affected rhinologic practice. There is a dramatic reduction of in person care in the office setting and surgical management of sinonasal and skull base disease. Enhanced PPE is being used in only half of potentially aerosolizing procedures which represents an area of further education. Novel approaches such as use of virtual encounters and point of care testing should be considered as options to facilitate care. PMID: 33019817 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Diagnostic Criteria of Recurrent Acute Rhinosinusitis: A Systematic Review.
CONCLUSION: The diagnostic definition for RARS has developed over time and is currently based on low level 4 and 5 evidence. Because of the migratory definition of RARS, comparing inter-study results of RARS management remains difficult, and future studies should aim to follow current expert guidelines on diagnostic criteria of RARS. Olfactory Function After Surgical Treatment of CRS: A Comparison of CRS Patients to Healthy Controls.
CONCLUSION: ESS improved olfactory metrics and restored olfactory function in approximately 50% of patients with CRS to that of healthy controls. Concurrent septoplasty increased the likelihood of achieving normal olfaction, while NP and previous ESS decreased those odds. PMID: 32954837 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Treatment of Frontal Sinus Osteomyelitis in the Age of Endoscopy.
CONCLUSION: Endoscopic, endoscopic-assisted, and open approaches were utilized successfully in the current series of patients with osteomyelitis of the anterior table of the frontal sinus. While the progression of endoscopic techniques allows an additional surgical treatment option, it is important to select patients appropriately as open procedures continue to have an important role in the treatment algorithm. Risk Factors for Rhinosinusitis After Endoscopic Transsphenoidal Adenomectomy.
CONCLUSION: This is the first study to investigate preoperative sinonasal disease as a risk factor for PRS after eTSA. The risk factors considered did not demonstrate definitive risk for PRS, although a history of prior sinonasal surgery should be investigated further. Symptoms and Clinical Findings in Primary Headache Syndrome Versus Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
CONCLUSIONS: The SNOT-22 may be used to distinguish PHS from CRS based upon the Aural/Facial and Sleep domains. Patients with CRS have more severe Nasal domain scores and worse objective endoscopy and CT findings. PMID: 32883085 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy (CDCR) success rates and complications in endoscopic vs non ‐endoscopic approaches: a systematic review
ConclusionBased on the data available in the literature, CDCR is considered an effective procedure for treating epiphora due to proximal obstruction. Controlled and qualitative studies are needed to clarify the significance of the endoscope's contribution to CDCR.

Disease control after surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis: prospective, multi ‐institutional validation of the Sinus Control Test
ConclusionImprovement in disease control following ESS as measured by the SCT correlated with improvements in SNOT ‐22 and endoscopy scores. The SCT is an easily administered instrument that provides information complementary to existing patient‐reported and objective measures of disease severity.

Eosinophil paradox with mepolizumab in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis
We were intrigued to read the post hoc analysis by Howarth et  al1 suggesting that 100 mg mepolizumab given subcutaneously may reduce disease burden in the upper and lower airways of patients with severe eosinophilic asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). Pointedly, the diagnosis of CRSwNP was not based on either sinonasal endoscopy or computed tomography scan. The subgroup of patients in the MUSCA trial who completed the 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) exhibited a mean treatment effect of −11.8 with mepolizumab, which exceeded the minimal clinically important difference of −8.9.

Eustachian tube dysfunction in patients with house dust mite-allergic rhinitis
ConclusionsAR patients, especially those with severe nasal obstruction, could have ETD. The local conditions of the pharyngeal orifices of the eustachian tubes are closely related to the symptoms of ETD. After treatment with nasal glucocorticoids and oral antihistamines, eustachian tube function can significantly improve as nasal symptoms subside.Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registery (ChiCTR2000029071) Registered 12 January 2020 —Retrospectively registered,http://www.chictr.org.cn/edit.aspx?pid=48328&htm=4
