The Spanish standard patch test series: 2016 update by the Spanish Contact Dermatitis and Skin Allergy Research Group (GEIDAC).
Abstract The Spanish standard patch test series, as recommended by the Spanish Contact Dermatitis and Skin Allergy Research Group (GEIDAC), has been updated for 2016. The new series replaces the 2012 version and contains the minimum set of allergens recommended for routine investigation of contact allergy in Spain from 2016 onwards. Four haptens -clioquinol, thimerosal, mercury, and primin- have been eliminated owing to a low frequency of relevant allergic reactions, while 3 new allergens -methylisothiazolinone, diazolidinyl urea, and imidazolidinyl urea- have been added. GEIDAC has also modified the recommended a...

Differentiating of cross-reactions in patients with latex allergy with the use of ISAC test.
CONCLUSIONS: ImmunoCAP ISAC test could be useful in differentiating between cross-reactions and double sensitizations. However, in the case of latex its advantages are limited due to a small panel of allergens. PMID: 27279821 [PubMed]

Amalgam Contact Allergy in Oral Lichenoid Lesions.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of amalgam contact allergy in patients with OLLs was 58.5%. Mercury was the most common allergen, followed by copper sulfate. An association between clinical, topographic relation, and positive patch test results would be a useful predictor for favorable outcome after amalgam removal. Acrylate and methacrylate contact allergy and allergic contact disease: a 13‐year review
ConclusionsOur 13‐year experience indicates a changing landscape of (meth)acrylate contact allergy and allergic contact disease, with an observed shift in exposures away from manufacturing and towards acrylic nail sources. Wound dressings are highlighted as emerging sources of sensitization. Larger studies are required to establish the sensitivity and specificity of the four (meth)acrylates proposed for potential screening.

Role of immunoglobulin G antibodies in diagnosis of food allergy.
Authors: Gocki J, Bartuzi Z Abstract This paper presents current views on the role of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies in the reactions with food antigens in the digestive tract and their role in the diagnosis of food allergy based on the assays of specific IgG class antibodies, with a special focus on contemporary practice guidelines. In the light of current scientific knowledge, the IgG-specific antibody-mediated reactions are a body's natural and normal defensive reactions to infiltrating food antigens, which are considered as pathogens. On the other hand, specific IgG antibodies against food allergens play a c...

Food allergy in atopic dermatitis
Sandipan Dhar, Sahana M SrinivasIndian Journal of Dermatology 2016 61(6):645-648Food allergy in atopic dermatitis (AD) is debatable from decades. Role of diet in the cause and treatment of AD is controversial and is not well-defined. Allergists and pediatricians are convinced about the food allergy in AD whereas many dermatologists are contrary for this. However, there are studies in the Indian and western literature supporting the evidence that elimination diet may improve the severe type of AD. There is increasing awareness and lot of misconception among caregivers about food allergy and hence careful understanding about...

Time trends of contact allergy to the European baseline series in Lithuania
ConclusionThis study provides current information on the prevalence of contact allergy in Lithuania. Changing trends in sensitivity to some allergens probably reflect changes in exposure.

Hypohidrosis and metal allergy: Trigger factors for unilateral lichen planus
Abstract Unilateral lichen planus (LP) is a rare clinical variant of LP. The etiology of unilateral LP has not been clarified, although various causes have been reported because of the characteristic distribution. We focused on the contribution of metal allergy and sweating in the development of unilateral LP in this case. To confirm the presence of metal allergy, patch tests with metal allergens were performed. To investigate the cause of the unilateral distribution in unilateral LP, the function of sweating and sweat leaking in the dermis was assessed by a thermoregulatory sweat test and immunohistochemical staining of d...

The influence of dietary immunomodulatory factors on development of food allergy in children.
Authors: Sardecka I, Krogulska A, Toporowska-Kowalska E Abstract In the last few years many studies have been conducted on the role of dietary and environmental factors in the prevention of allergic diseases among children. Many studies have shown that the diet of pregnant women and children in their early postnatal life, rich in antioxidants, vitamin D, and fatty acids is beneficial as it reduces the risk of allergy in their future life. Moreover, there are many reports about the main role of gut microbiota and probiotics in the allergy prevention, what can indicate new ways of procedures in allergic diseases. ...

Trends in preservative allergy in Cork, Ireland
Several epidemics of preservative contact allergy have emerged, namely formaldehyde in the 1960s, MCI/MI in the 1980s, methyldibromo glutaronitrile in the 1990s, and the recent epidemic of MI following European Union (EU) approval in 2005 allowing MI to be used in stronger concentrations in leave-on and rinse-off cosmetic products. The aim of our study was to evaluate the trends in preservative allergy in our dermatology unit in Cork. Over a nineteen-year period (1997 to 2015) we analyzed the patch test results of 2,636 patients who were investigated for a contact allergy.

Polyethylene glycol as marker for nitrofurazone allergy: 20  years of experience from Turkey
ConclusionsPEG sensitivity seems to be a marker for contact allergy to topical nitrofurazone in Turkey. Nitrofurazone allergy appears to favour concomitant sensitization to PEG. We would suggest the inclusion of PEG in an extended baseline patch test series in Turkey. Late patch test readings are important to diagnose delayed positive reactions to PEG.
