Metabolic syndrome and psoriatic arthritis among patients with psoriasis vulgaris: Quality of life and prevalence
This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and to investigate HRQoL and the prevalence of hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity and dyslipidemia. In a cross‐sectional design, patients d iagnosed with plaque psoriasis answered an interview and standardized questionnaires (Dermatology Life Quality Index questionnaire [DLQI], 36‐Item Short Form Health Survey [SF‐36] and EuroQol Five‐Dimension Questionnaire Three‐Level version [EQ‐5D‐3L]). Physical examination and several t ests to assess desired outcomes were performed by a dermatologis...

Gastrointestinal bleeding with severe mucosal involvement in a patient with generalized pustular psoriasis without IL36RN mutation
AbstractGeneralized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a systemic inflammatory disease that presents with erythema and sterile pustules, pathologically characterized by Kogoj's spongiform pustules. GPP is sometimes accompanied by mucosal involvement, and the most common lesion is on the tongue.IL36RN mutation was found to contribute to the pathogenesis of GPP especially in patients who develop GPP without a past medical history of psoriasis vulgaris. The association ofIL36RN mutation with mucosal involvement in GPP is controversial. We herein report a 60 ‐year‐old male GPP patient with no past history of plaque psoriasis pres...

Risk of psychiatric disorders in rosacea: A nationwide, population ‐based, cohort study in Taiwan
AbstractRosacea has been reported to be associated with psychiatric disorders. Nevertheless, a nationwide study of the relationship between rosacea and comorbid psychiatric diseases in an Asian population has not been conducted. The aim of this study was to clarify the role of rosacea in the various psychiatric disorders by using a nationwide database in Taiwan. Data were obtained from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan from 2000 to 2013. In total, 7881 patients with rosacea and 31  524 age‐ and sex‐matched controls were enrolled. Patients with rosacea tended to have more coexisting psychiat...

Papuloerythroderma ‐like cutaneous involvement of a CD62L− subclone of T‐cell prolymphocytic leukemia
We report the case of an 88 ‐year‐old Japanese man with erythrodermic involvement of T‐cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T‐PLL). He had a history of pharyngeal diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma successfully treated with polychemotherapy including cyclophosphamide and epirubicin, 6 years before the current illness. He present ed with numerous reddish, coalescing, flat‐topped papules on the trunk and extremities, sparing the skin folds of the abdomen, the features of which mimicked those of papuloerythroderma. Immunohistochemistry showed perivascular and epidermotropic infiltration of CD3+ CD4+ T cells in the cutaneous l...

Demographic and clinical characteristics of spinal calcinosis in systemic sclerosis: Possible association with peripheral angiopathy
The objective was to evaluate the demographic and clinical characteristics of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients with spinal calcinosis. Paraspinal and intraspinal calcinosis was assessed blindly by orthopedic surgeons specializing in spinal diseases using chest high ‐resolution computed tomography (CT) that was performed for the screening and prospecting of interstitial lung disease in 159 Japanese SSc patients. Among these patients, we identified 27 (17%) with spinal calcinosis, and the most common site was cervical level at 77.8% (21/27). The frequency of s pinal calcinosis in the late stage was higher than in the earl...

Cancer risk in 892  089 patients with psoriasis in Korea: A nationwide population‐based cohort study
AbstractThe relationship between psoriasis and cancer has not yet been established. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of psoriasis with certain cancers using national statistics. All patients with psoriasis (n = 892 089; 51.7% male) and age‐ and sex‐matched control subjects (n = 4 460 445) at a 5:1 ratio were enrolled using data from the National Health Insurance Service between 2007 and 2014 in Korea. In psoriatic subjects, overall cancer risk was higher than for subjects without psoriasis after adjusting for income level, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and ...

Expression of T ‐cell immunoglobulin and immunoreceptor tyrosine‐based inhibitory motif domain on CD4+ T cells in patients with atopic dermatitis
In this study, we examined the expression levels of TIGIT and their association with clinical features in patients with AD. TIGIT expression on CD4+ T cells, central memory T cells, effector memory T cells and regulatory T cells was determined by flow cytometry. CD4+ T cells exhibited enhanced TIGIT expression in patients with AD compared with healthy individuals. In particular, effector memory T cells and regulatory T cells, but not central memory T cells, exhibited higher TIGIT expression in patients with AD than in healthy individuals. The frequency of TIGIT+ cells among CD4+ T cells was significantly increased in patie...
