Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging clarifies cardiac pathophysiology in early, asymptomatic diffuse systemic sclerosis.
CONCLUSIONS: CMR may reveal severe cardiac involvement in early, asymptomatic diffuse SSc with normal routine cardiac evaluation, presenting either as myocardial inflammation or as severe reduction of MPRI and diffuse fibrosis with further deterioration in the long term follow up. Utility of early postoperative imaging after combined endoscopic and open ventral skull base surgery.
CONCLUSION: The benefit of early postoperative imaging to detect complications after combined SBS was limited. In this cohort of patients, positive imaging findings' effects on patient management were dictated by the presence of supporting clinical symptoms. PMID: 28490405 [PubMed - in process]

The effect of olfactory training on the odor threshold in patients with traumatic anosmia.
CONCLUSION: Our results showed that olfactory training with PEA can improve PEA odor threshold levels in patients with traumatic anosmia. PMID: 28859708 [PubMed - in process]

Resection of Inverted Papilloma of the Maxillary Sinus via a Prelacrimal Recess Approach: A Multicenter Retrospective Analysis of Surgical Efficacy.
Conclusions These multicenter follow-up results demonstrated that the PLRA is a safe and effective method for the excision of primary or recurrent IPMS with lower postoperative complications and recurrent rate. PMID: 30251558 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Premedication of pregnant patients with history of iodinated contrast allergy
Abstract Pregnant patients can receive allergy premedication prior to a contrast-enhanced computed tomography exam if the exam is indicated. The risks and benefits of allergy premedication for pregnant patients will be discussed, as well as imaging strategies for the pregnant patient with a contrast allergy. Alternative imaging including ultrasound, noncontrast magnetic resonance imaging, or noncontrast computed tomography can be diagnostic depending on the clinical scenario and is usually preferred, allowing physicians to avoid giving allergy premedication in pregnancy, a 13  h delay, and risking a breakthrough reaction.

Anaphylaxis Induced by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Contrast Media
Opinion statementPurpose of reviewThe aim of this document is to review the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of immediate and anaphylactic reactions to gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCA) most commonly used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Recent findingsThe frequency of adverse reactions to GBCA ranges from 0.04 to 2.2%. Most reactions are mild (47% –95%) and the frequency of anaphylactic shock is 0.004%–0.01%. Mortality due to anaphylaxis induced by GBCAs has been 0.0019%.Allergic reactions are more frequent in patients with a previous reaction, in females, using macrocycle estructure GBCA and with hepat...

Autosomal recessive phosphoglucomutase 3 (PGM3) mutations link glycosylation defects to atopy, immune deficiency, autoimmunity, and neurocognitive impairment
Conclusions: Autosomal recessive hypomorphic PGM3 mutations underlie a disorder of severe atopy, immune deficiency, autoimmunity, intellectual disability, and hypomyelination.

The impact of endoscopic sinus surgery on total direct healthcare costs among patients with chronic rhinosinusitis
ConclusionAmong patients who underwent ESS for CRS, total direct healthcare costs, antibiotic usage, and number of imaging studies decreased after surgery, and remained below preoperative levels throughout all 3 years of follow‐up. Oral corticosteroid usage remained stable.

Journal Allergy & Clinical Immunology Perspective: Clinical potential for imaging in asthma and other lung disorders
The ability of lung imaging to phenotype patients, determine prognosis, and to predict response to treatments is expanding in clinical and translational research. The purpose of this perspective is to describe current imaging modalities that may be useful clinical tools in asthma and other lung disorders and to explore some of the new developments in imaging modalities of the lung. These imaging modalities include chest radiography (CXR), computed tomography (CT), lung magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electrical impedance tomography (EIT), bronchoscopy, and others.

Structural non-infectious manifestations of the central nervous system in common variable immunodeficiency disorders
ConclusionCNS disease is a severe but rare complication in CVID disorders, particularly affecting patients with other non-infectious disease symptoms. Diagnostic evaluation needs to rule out infectious causes by all means; a genetic evaluation is recommended given the high probability of an underlying monogenic disorder. Possible treatment consists of steroids with yet to be determined optimal maintenance therapy in case of relapse.
