Corticosteroid hypersensitivity studies in a skin allergy clinic.
CONCLUSIONS: The Spanish standard series only contains group 1 corticosteroids. In the interest of improving allergy management, we recommend testing with a specific corticosteroid series and a patient's own creams whenever patch testing with a standard series reveals a hypersensitivity reaction to corticosteroids. Patch-testing with Main Sensitizers Does Not Detect All Cases of Contact Allergy to Oxidized Lavender Oil.
Abstract Lavender oil is an essential oil obtained from lavender (Lavendula angustifolia). The main components linalool and linalyl acetate have been shown to autoxidize in contact with oxygen in the air, forming sensitizing hydroperoxides. Patients with suspected allergic contact dermatitis were consecutively patch-tested with oxidized lavender oil 6% pet., oxidized linalyl acetate 6% pet., and oxidized linalool 6% pet. to investigate the frequency of contact allergy to oxidized lavender oil, and the pattern of concomitant reactions to oxidized linalool and oxidized linalyl acetate. Positive reactions to oxidized...

Newly acquired kiwi fruit allergy after bone marrow transplantation from a kiwi‐allergic donor
ConclusionExemplified in this patient, we show for the first time that allergy transfer is mediated by the donor's cells. Moreover, our experimental approach using customized kiwi extract to prove contribution of kiwi‐specific T and B cells in both kiwi‐allergic recipient and donor could serve as a model approach for future studies.

Lidocaine Allergy: Do Positive Patch Results Restrict Future Use?
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with positive patch tests to lidocaine and negative results to intradermal testing and subcutaneous challenge may be safe to use lidocaine as an injectable local anesthetic in the future. PMID: 26983093 [PubMed - in process]

Dyshidrotic Eczema and Its Relationship to Metal Allergy.
Authors: Nishizawa A Abstract Dyshidrotic eczema, also known as dyshidrotic dermatitis or pompholyx, is characterized by pruritic, small tense vesicles mainly on the palmoplantar region and lateral and ventral surfaces of the fingers. While its etiology appears to be related to sweating, as dyshidrotic eczema often occurs in an individual with hyperhidrosis, and the spring allergy season, histologic examination shows an eczematous reaction around the sweat ducts which is not associated with abnormalities of the sweat ducts. More recently, the nomenclature of 'acute and recurrent vesicular hand dermatitis' has been ...

Comprehensive study of oral allergy syndrome: Link between patient clinical course and outcome from ISAC analysis
Objective: Oral allergy syndrome (OAS) is perhaps the most common food-related allergy in adults. Even of OAS, pollen-food allergy is important for cross-reactivity to proteins. The ImmunoCAP ISAC allows detection of specific IgE to 112 molecular components from 51 allergenic sources. This new approach helps to clarify the molecular bases of primary sensitization and cross-reactivity phenomena. We used this approach to analyze allergen component comprehensively. Subjective: We retrospectively analyzed sera from 11 patients who had been examined based on suspicion of allergy at the Department of Dermatology of the Osaka University.

Contact Allergy to (Ingredients of) Toothpastes.
Abstract The literature on contact allergy to (ingredients of) toothpastes is critically reviewed. We have found 47 case reports, small case series (n = 2-5) and citations published between 1900 and 2016 describing more than 60 patients allergic to toothpastes, and in addition 3 larger case series and many descriptions of toothpaste allergy among selected groups of patients. Allergic reactions usually manifest as cheilitis with or without dermatitis around the mouth, less frequently by oral symptoms. Formerly, many reactions were caused by cinnamon derivatives; more recently, reported allergens are diverse. A semi...

A population ‐based study of self‐reported skin exposures and symptoms in relation to contact allergy in adolescents
ConclusionsAdolescents are exposed to skin‐sensitizing substances, for example because of piercing, hair dyeing, and tattooing. Such early‐life skin exposure may lead to lifelong contact allergy and future allergic contact dermatitis and hand eczema.

Contact Allergy to Hydroperoxides of Linalool and D-Limonene in a US Population.
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the frequency of positive patch test reactions to the hydroperoxides of linalool is 20% (19/96), and the frequency of positive reactions to the hydroperoxides of D-limonene is 8% (7/90). These high frequencies suggest that patch testing to the hydroperoxides of linalool and limonene should be performed in all patients with suspected fragrance allergy.
