Short ‐term outcomes of olfaction in patients with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis after endoscopic sinus surgery and an assessment of prognostic factors
ConclusionHerein we examined prognostic factors for olfactory outcomes in ECRS treated with ESS. The intravenous olfaction test, presence of OC lesions, sex differences, and age (the cut ‐off value was 45 years) were identified as independent prognostic factors for olfactory outcomes 3 months after surgery.

Association of asthma control with allergic rhinitis severity in adult patients
Conclusions: Allergic rhinitis is common comorbidity of asthma that interrelated to asthma control. Identifiable allergens could be detected AR in asthma by SPT. Therefore, reduction of allergens exposure could become preventive approach for asthma patients with AR.

Sample collection for laboratory ‐based study of the nasal airway and sinuses: a research compendium
ConclusionMultiple sampling techniques are available to collect biologic samples from the sinonasal cavity. These techniques differ in their ease of application, reproducibility, sample yield, and utility for different sinonasal pathologies or research goals. An appreciation of the benefits and drawbacks of each approach will allow investigators to select the techniques most appropriate for achieving research objectives.

Clinicopathologic characteristics of paranasal sinus fungus ball: retrospective, multicenter study in Korea
ConclusionFB is commonly encountered in older women with the increased prevalence. FB had a different clinical presentation, radiological findings, and prognosis than CRS. Further studies are needed to understand the pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying the development of FB.

How aggressive should resection of inverted papilloma be? Refinement of surgical planning based on the 25 ‐year experience of a single tertiary center
ConclusionPreoperative evidence of precancerous changes and/or involvement of maxillary sinus should prompt the surgeon to address the disease more aggressively (centripetal resection). Preoperative imaging and biopsy with abundant material may optimize the chance to stratify patients eligible for less or more conservative approaches.

a case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis found by pica during oral immunotherapy.
We report the case of a 6-year-old boy with EGE. He was diagnosed as having immediate-type food allergies (egg, milk and wheat) by oral food challenges at 1 year of age. OIT for each food was carried out, and the amounts of the offending foods were able to be gradually increased without causing any immediate-type allergy symptoms. However, the total IgE and specific IgE values were remarkably increased at the age of 4 years and 4 months. He first developed oral mucosa symptoms and vomiting at 4 years and 10 months of age, and they gradually worsened. Stopping eggs and milk alleviated the symptoms. Nevertheless, he still oc...

Complete endoscopic sinus surgery followed by aspirin desensitization is associated with decreased overall corticosteroid use
ConclusionIn our AERD cohort who underwent ESS followed by AD, there was an observed decrease in overall systemic and topical/inhaled corticosteroid use. These findings can have implications for treatment given the potentially hazardous side effects of corticosteroid use.

Association of spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea with transverse venous sinus stenosis: a retrospective matched case ‐control study
ConclusionIn this retrospective study, sCSF leaks were strongly associated with VSS. This novel finding provides a rationale for further investigation of the role of VSS in the onset of sCSF leaks and of the potential interest in venous stenting after the surgical repair of leaks.

Eosinophil paradox with mepolizumab in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis
We were intrigued to read the post hoc analysis by Howarth et  al1 suggesting that 100 mg mepolizumab given subcutaneously may reduce disease burden in the upper and lower airways of patients with severe eosinophilic asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). Pointedly, the diagnosis of CRSwNP was not based on either sinonasal endoscopy or computed tomography scan. The subgroup of patients in the MUSCA trial who completed the 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) exhibited a mean treatment effect of −11.8 with mepolizumab, which exceeded the minimal clinically important difference of −8.9.
