Association of asthma control with allergic rhinitis severity in adult patients

Conclusions: Allergic rhinitis is common comorbidity of asthma that interrelated to asthma control. Identifiable allergens could be detected AR in asthma by SPT. Therefore, reduction of allergens exposure could become preventive approach for asthma patients with AR.

ConclusionsAmong uninsured and underinsured asthma patients with GAD and/or MDD who were initiated on a single antidepressant, those who were titrated to achieve target doses had reduced risk of severe asthma exacerbations and lower number of asthma ‐related outcomes than those who were not optimized to achieve target doses.

We present the case of a 59-year-old patient with malabsorption syndrome which started with polyneuropathy. Capsule endoscopy and enteroscopy show villous denudation. Histological study confirms diaphragm disease of the small bowel. Diaphragm disease is a rare disease characterized by the presence of multiple thin diaphragms, such as septa, that narrow the intestinal lumen. The clinical features can be iron deficiency anemia, intestinal obstruction, change in bowel habits or acute abdomen secondary to perforation. It is usually generally with sustained use of high doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The diagnos...

CONCLUSIONS: in our study, the five year disease free survival rate was 81% and no patient required surgery during follow-up. Piecemeal and R1 resections had significantly higher recurrence rates, as well as LM involvement, although this was not statistically significant. PMID: 32054276 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractPurpose of ReviewStaphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is correlated with the development of persistent severe inflammatory disease of the upper airway including chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). The presence ofS. aureus is associated with atopic disease including allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis and is associated with poor outcomes.Recent FindingsSeveral different strains ofS. aureus generate different toxins and gene products that can account for organism pathogenicity.S. aureus bacteria and its antigens shape the bacterial and fungal microbiome and the mucosal niche which generates host respo...

This study evaluates the efficacy of adjuvant leukotriene receptor antagonism in CRS and subtypes. MethodsRetrospective review of collected data at a tertiary‐referral institution. We identified all patients who were prescribed montelukast postoperatively and had a lapse in therapy for at least 1 month (n = 50), so that the patients themselves serve as their own control group. Twenty‐item Sino‐Nasal Outcomes Test (SNOT‐20) scores and Lund‐Kennedy endoscopy scores were obtained for each patient. Scores were compared with and without montelukast using Wilcoxon signed rank test. The analysis was controlled for chang...
