Anti-inflammatory Effects of Ziziphus Jujube Mill on LPS-induced Acute Lung Injury in Mice
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2023 Jun 16;22(3):281-289. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v22i3.13056.ABSTRACTZiziphus Jujuba Mill (Z.J) is a well-known ethnomedical source of biologically active compounds with anti-inflammatory effects. However, its significance in acute lung injury (ALI) has never been studied. The present study aimed to explore whether Z.J could attenuate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses in an experimental model of ALI. Male BALB/c mice received an intratracheal administration of LPS (n=32) or phosphate buffer saline (PBS) (control, n=8). Within 1, 11, and 23 h post-LPS injection, mice were r...

Impaired sports performance of athletes suffering from pollen-induced allergic rhinitis: a cross-sectional, observational survey in German athletes.
CONCLUSIONS: This study confirmed a high prevalence of pollen allergy among German athletes. The majority of allergic rhinitis athletes were undertreated and the reason could be their reservations about allergy treatments. Pollen allergy tremendously reduced sports performance of athletes during the pollen season. This impact can be lessened with proper treatment such as immunotherapy. Better understanding of available treatment modalities should be provided to patients and physicians to improve sports performance of athletes suffering from pollen allergy. Prevalence and Risk Factors for Allergic Rhinitis in China: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Sep 23;2022:7165627. doi: 10.1155/2022/7165627. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) has increased tremendously in the recent year in China. Evidence-based medicine to objectively evaluate the prevalence and risk factors for AR in China is urgently required. Toward this, we systematically searched four English and four Chinese databases to identify the literature on the same, from the year of website establishment until November 2021. A total of 51 studies were evaluated, and data were obtained through Stata 16 analysis. Overall pooled risk factors for a...

Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking Study of Yupingfeng Powder in the Treatment of Allergic Diseases
CONCLUSION: This study revealed the key ingredients, hub targets, and potential mechanisms of YPFP antiallergy, and these data can provide some theoretical basis for subsequent allergy treatment and drug development.PMID:35855823 | PMC:PMC9288288 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1323744

Qingpeng Ointment Ameliorates Inflammatory Responses and Dysregulation of Itch-Related Molecules for Its Antipruritic Effects in Experimental Allergic Contact Dermatitis
Conclusion Via a HPLC system and a BATMAN-TCM platform, for the first time we performed detailed HPLC fingerprint analysis and network pharmacology studies of QP ointment. By in-depth animal and molecular analysis, we identified a number of chronic dermatitis-associated Th1/2 cytokines, itch mediators, and cellular signaling pathways in the skin, DRG and serum for QP to treat the inflammation and chronic itch associated with ACD. Our data clearly suggested, upon stimulation, cytokines and itch-related mediators are released from the skin and neuronal tissues, and QP could effectively work on both the skin and sensory neur...

What to Know About the Latest Advances in Managing Severe Asthma
Graphs and charts don’t always tell the whole story. Numbers can be deceiving. But anyone who looks at U.S. trends in asthma mortality can see, without squinting, that things are moving in the right direction. A 2019 analysis in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that from 1999 to 2015, asthma mortality fell by 43%. “The decrease in asthma-related mortality was consistent in both sexes and in all race groups, with the largest decrease in patients older than 65 years,” the authors concluded. Figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that the...

Anti-inflammatory Effects of Ganoderma lucidum Triterpenoid in Human Crohn's Disease Associated with Downregulation of NF-κB Signaling
Conclusions: GAC1 inhibited production of TNF-α and other proinflammatory cytokines by PBMCs and inflamed CD colonic mucosa due to blockage of NF-κB activation. GAC1 is a key beneficial constituent in G. lucidum and the Food Allergy Herbal Formula-2 in suppressing the inflammatory cytokines found in CD and warrants clinical investigation for the treatment of CD.

Immune reactivities to peanut proteins, agglutinins, and oleosins.
Conclusions • The study's findings support the proposition that IgE sensitization to foods may not necessarily coincide with positive prick tests to commercial extracts. Falsely negative skin testing or IgG, IgA, or IgE antibody testing is often linked to the nature of the preparation of the food antigens and their use in in-vivo and in-vitro testing. The study's results support the need to improve the quality of food extracts used in the diagnosis of allergies and immune reactivity to nuts and seeds. Testing should use all possible food antigens and measure both IgG and IgE antibodies. PMID: 25599188 [PubMed - in process]

Drug desensitization in allergic children.
Abstract Drug allergy is an increasing problem worldwide, affecting all populations and races, children and adults, and for which diagnosis and treatment are not well standardized yet. Besides classical treatments, new drugs have been developed, especially for patients suffering from malignancies and chronic inflammatory diseases, that specifically target the cause of the disease. For those patients requiring such molecules, it is sometimes difficult to find an alternative drug when hypersensitivity reactions occur. Desensitization is therefore the best option whenever no alternative therapy is available but also ...

Lamiaceae: An Insight on Their Anti-Allergic Potential and Its Mechanisms of Action
The prevalence of allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergy and atopic dermatitis has increased dramatically in recent decades. Conventional therapies for allergy can induce undesirable effects and hence patients tend to seek for natural compounds as alternative medicine. Considering the fact above, there is an urgency to discover potential medicinal plants as future candidates in the development of novel anti-allergic therapeutic agents. Lamiaceae family, the mint family, is a diverse plant family which encompasses more than 7000 species and with a cosmopolitan distribution. A number of species fro...

Do sociodemographic characteristics associated with the use of CAM differ by chronic disease?
ConclusionsSociodemographic characteristics associated with CAM use differ by diseases. The role of CAM in disease management cannot be ignored. Making physicians aware for which disease CAM is used and by whom, may facilitate disease management.
