A Social Ecological Approach to Develop a Nutrition Education Program for Preventing Iron Deficiency Anemia in Young Children in Rural Pakistan.
Authors: Iqbal K, Hutchinson C, Tanasugarn C Abstract Inappropriate feeding practices puts infants and young children at risk of iron deficiency anemia. Maternal complementary feeding (CF) behavior is determined by influences at various levels, including knowledge and attitude about feeding, inter-personal interaction with family/friends, community norms and support. The aim of this study is to understand the various influences on maternal CF behavior in order to develop a culturally appropriate nutrition education program to improve iron status of children aged 9-24 months. Rapid Referral for Iron Infusion in Gynecological Patients
An IV iron rapid referral pathway (IVIRRP) was established as an electronic-medical record (EMR)-based protocol in collaboration with Hematology, to expedite delivery of IV iron to anemic patients undergoing benign hysterectomy. We evaluated the effect of the IVIRRP on the rates of preoperative anemia, referrals for IV iron, rates of transfusion, and time from referral to infusion.

Management of heavy menstrual bleeding on anticoagulation.
Authors: Samuelson Bannow B Abstract Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is a common complication of anticoagulation, affecting ∼70% of menstruating women receiving oral anticoagulants. The risk of HMB is lower with apixaban and/or dabigatran than with rivaroxaban. HMB can result in iron deficiency with or without anemia, increased need for medical interventions, decreased quality of life, and missed school/work. Mainstays of treatment include hormone therapies such as the levonorgestrel intrauterine system, subdermal implant, and other progesterone-based therapies, which can result in decreased blood loss and, in som...
