Monoclonal Antibodies that Neutralize Norovirus
Vaccines and therapies to prevent and treat Norovirus infections do not exist, despite the worldwide prevalence of Norovirus infections. Outbreaks of human gastroenteritis attributable to Norovirus commonly occur in group setting, such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, dormitories, cruise ships and military barracks. This technology relates to chimpanzee-human chimeric monoclonal antibodies, which specifically bind to Norovirus and have therapeutic potential. The antibodies that were tested in a primate model of infection have shown protection against Norovirus. These Norovirus antibodies may have application as immunop...

Single-Chain Antibodies Directed to Norovirus GI.1 and GII.4 and Their Use
Vaccines and therapies to prevent and treat Norovirus infections are not available, despite the worldwide prevalence of Norovirus infections. Outbreaks of human gastroenteritis attributable to Norovirus commonly occur in group settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, dormitories, cruise ships and military barracks. This application claims isolated VHH monoclonal antibodies that specifically bind to a Norovirus polypeptide. Llama-derived single chain antibody fragments (also called VHH) are small, recombinant monoclonal antibodies of 15 kDa ( “nanobodies”) with several advantages over conventional antibodies...

Rationale for Development of Work-Related Asthma Educational Tools for Asthmatics
Opinion statementCurrently, young asthmatics have little knowledge of the potential effects of work exposures on their asthma. We expect that education of young asthmatics about the potential effects of the working environment on their asthma and appropriate steps to reduce work-related exacerbations will provide these individuals with skills to better control their asthma. Currently, there is no formal process for this education to our knowledge. Since the Internet is readily available and widely used by most young asthmatics, it may provide a useful forum for such education. Our preliminary studies with development and e...

Psychological and lifestyle risk factors for asthma exacerbations and morbidity in children
AbstractAsthma is the most common childhood illness and disproportionately affects low-income, minority children who live in urban areas. A range of risk factors are associated with asthma morbidity and mortality, such as treatment non-adherence, exposure to environmental triggers, low-income households, exposure to chronic stress, child psychological problems, parental stress, family functioning, obesity, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diets. These risk factors often have complex interactions and inter-relationships. Comprehensive studies that explore the inter-relationships of these factors in accounting for asthma m...
