Discovery of highly immunogenic spleen-resident FCGR3 < sup > + < /sup > CD103 < sup > + < /sup > cDC1s differentiated by IL-33-primed ST2 < sup > + < /sup > basophils
Cell Mol Immunol. 2023 May 29. doi: 10.1038/s41423-023-01035-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecombinant interleukin-33 (IL-33) inhibits tumor growth, but the detailed immunological mechanism is still unknown. IL-33-mediated tumor suppression did not occur in Batf3-/- mice, indicating that conventional type 1 dendritic cells (cDC1s) play a key role in IL-33-mediated antitumor immunity. A population of CD103+ cDC1s, which were barely detectable in the spleens of normal mice, increased significantly in the spleens of IL-33-treated mice. The newly emerged splenic CD103+ cDC1s were distinct from conventional splenic cDC1s bas...

New-Onset Diabetes after COVID-19
J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2023 May 19:dgad284. doi: 10.1210/clinem/dgad284. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is evidence suggesting that infection with SARS-CoV-2 can lead to several long-term sequelae including diabetes. This mini-review examines the rapidly evolving and conflicting literature on new-onset diabetes after COVID-19, which we term NODAC. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, and medRxiv from inception until December 1, 2022 using both MeSH terms and free text words including "COVID-19," "SARS-CoV-2," "diabetes," "hyperglycemia," "insulin resistance," and "pancreatic β-cell." We also supplemented searches by examin...

Egyptian hemodialysis patients' willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine booster dose: a multicenter survey
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 booster-dose hesitancy among HD patients in Egypt represents a major concern, is associated with vaccine hesitancy with respect to other vaccines and emphasizes the need to develop effective strategies to increase vaccine uptake.PMID:36862285 | PMC:PMC9979119 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01586-z

Clinical Outcomes and Vaccine Effectiveness for SARS-CoV-2 Infection in People Attending Advanced CKD Clinics: A Retrospective Provincial Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: People attending advanced CKD clinics and diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection in the first 21 months of the pandemic had high case fatality and hospitalization rates. Fatality rates were significantly lower in those who were doubly vaccinated.PMID:36795940 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000087

Background rates of adverse events of special interest for COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring in the United States, 2019-2020
CONCLUSION: AESI background rates varied by database and demographics and fluctuated in March-December 2020, but most returned to pre-pandemic levels after May 2020. It is critical to standardize demographics and consider seasonal and other trends when comparing historical rates with post-vaccination AESI rates in the same database to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine safety.PMID:36404170 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.11.003

Are immigrants living in France more reluctant to receive vaccines than native-born French citizens? findings from the national health Barometer study
CONCLUSION: Immigrants were less hesitant toward vaccinations than the host population, but vaccine hesitancy increased with time spent in France. The provision of appropriate information and awareness to facilitate critical thinking towards antivaccine theories is necessary for immigrants in France.PMID:35644674 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.05.041
