Evaluation of asthma control in the pharmacy: an Italian cross-sectional study.
Conclusion. This is the first Italian pharmacy-based study on asthma control. A better asthma control was recorded in this study in comparison with other trials, but about 50% of patients were insufficiently controlled. The community pharmacies can play a relevant role in the preliminary assessment of asthma control by using easy and not time consuming tools, such as ACT. PMID: 28884990 [PubMed - in process]

An unusual case of positive sIgE to Galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose from South Italy.
We report the case of a 38-year-old man who was bitten several times during his life by a tick. He didn't report any previous history of anaphylaxis after the ingestion of red meat. The serum specific IgE showed positivity to α-Gal. The proximity of the bits didn't increase the titer of IgE antibodies to alpha-gal. We could hypothesize that the frequency of the exposure to the tick Corresponding author bites and the amount of tick bites during his lifetime induced a sort of tolerance in this patient. Severe asthma in adolescents and adults: a national, multicenter registry in real life.
Authors: Micheletto C, Bilò MB, Antonicelli L, Bresciani M, D'Amato G, De Benedictis E, De Michele F, Gasparini S, Giovannini M, Musarra A, Vaghi A, and on behalf of IRSA Abstract Summary: The number of patients with uncontrolled asthma is growing especially in young people. Although current therapies improve the disease management, the heterogeneity of clinical outcomes results in patients whose asthma is refractory to standard therapies. To understand not responsive phenotypes, we instituted a web-registry aimed to collect real life data of adolescent and adult patients. One-hundred and five Italian medical Cent...

Trends of thyroid function and autoimmunity to 5 years after the introduction of mandatory iodization in Italy.
Conclusion. In this study there isn't a connection between iodine fortification and iodine-induced hyperthyroidism, and between iodine fortification and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. This small increase of TSH values can not find a clear explanation yet. We considered several mechanisms to explain this phenomenon: alterations of Na/I symporter reduce intracellular levels of iodine, and cause a state of hypothyroidism; excessive levels of iodine can increase apoptosis of thyrocytes, as it is demonstrated by several studies; interference from external agents (endocrine disruptors). Diagnostic Criteria for Odontogenic Sinusitis: A Systematic Review.
CONCLUSIONS: Current diagnostic criteria for odontogenic sinusitis are extremely heterogeneous. Establishing shared diagnostic criteria aimed at defining both sinusitis and related odontogenic foci would spur collaboration between investigators and support more comprehensive outcomes evaluations together with a better understanding of treatment options. Nickel allergy following EU regulation in Denmark, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
CONCLUSION: There has been a reduction in the prevalence of nickel allergy in young women, contemporaneous with the introduction of the nickel regulation. A reduction is also suggested in German and British men. A causative effect of the regulatory intervention is the most likely explanation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
