The Caregiver Experience After Stroke in a COVID-19 Environment: A Qualitative Study in Inpatient Rehabilitation
Conclusions: Caregiver attendance at therapy sessions and frequent, direct communication between staff and caregivers improved caregiver readiness for family member discharge following inpatient rehabilitation. This study shared perspectives from a distinctive time during the COVID-19 pandemic. If visitation for multiple therapy sessions is prohibited, we recommend taking alternative measures to keep the caregiver involved in the plan of care. Non-invasive brain stimulation for stroke recovery: ready for the big time?
Stroke is the commonest cause of physical disability in the world and yet we are still struggling for consensus on how best to treat stroke survivors in order to maximise recovery after the acute event. When it comes to treating motor impairment there are two complementary therapeutic approaches to consider. First, physical therapies which are based on massed practice followed by incorporation of improvements into functional tasks through the instruction and knowledge provided by skilled physiotherapists and occupational therapists.1 Second, there are a number of experimental approaches under investigation which aim to inc...

Balance evaluation techniques and physical therapy in post-stroke patients: A literature review.
Abstract A stroke (cerebrovascular accident - CVA) is a significant social-economic issue. Approximately 15-30% of all patients develop life-long disability, 20% require over 3 months of specialized care in healthcare institutions, and the majority of the patients never recover the ability to maintain a proper vertical position. Such CVA sequelae as balance disturbances not only negatively affect patients' daily physical activity, but also result in social isolation. A number of standardized clinical scales, tests, and instrumental examination techniques have been proposed for evaluating not only post-CVA balance ...

Potential role of tele-rehabilitation to address barriers to implementation of physical therapy among West African stroke survivors: A cross-sectional survey
The greatest burden from stroke-related disability is borne by Low-and-Middle Income countries (LMICs) where access to rehabilitation after stroke is severely challenged. Tele-rehabilitation could be a viable avenue to address unmet rehabilitation needs in LMICs.

Effects of Action Observation Training in Gait Speed of Stroke Patients: A Case Series
Stroke is considered as a primary cause of disability and results to problems in activities of daily living. Action Observation Training (AOT) is an emerging cost-effective physical therapy intervention (PT) which involves facilitation of mirror neurons through viewing of video clips of a healthy individual performing an activity similar to that of the desired task. This intends to describe the effects of AOT used in conjunction with conventional PT interventions in gait speed of stroke patients.

Multiple relationships between cognition-motor impairment and activity-based clinical outcome measures in 218 hemiplegic stroke patients
CONCLUSIONS: Establishing a significant difference between body structure/functions and activity domain variables in our research implies important multiple relationships between cognitive function, lower extremity function, lower extremity spasticity, and balance, and performance of ADL and trunk control coordination after stroke.PMID:34776427 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-210195

Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Brazilian version of the PM-Scale: A specific measure of participation after stroke
CONCLUSION: The Brazilian version of the PM-Scale is a valid, unidimensional, linear, reliable scale for measuring participation in stroke survivors and can be administered in less than five minutes.PMID:37001362 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2023.100497
