A Case Report of Acute Intracerebral Vascular Ischemic Stroke After Treatment with Dihydroergotamine in a * Patient with New Onset of Migraine New Daily Persistant Headache with Thunderclap Onset (S41.008)
CONCLUSIONS: We report this case of a Stroke occuring in a patient who failed conventional outpatient management of sudden onset migraine-like headache that we suspect may have been on the spectrum of RCVS. Prior to this no reports have been published on a stroke possibly being a side effect or complication of DHE therapy. One prior report has suggested DHE caused RCVS in a migraine patient on citalopram, supporting the concept that DHE should be avoided in the setting of recent onset RCVS.Disclosure: Dr. Ghafoor has nothing to disclose. The association of atopy with incidence of ischemic heart disease, stroke, and diabetes
Abstract Allergy is a systemic inflammatory disease that could theoretically affect the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes through inflammatory pathways or mast cell-induced coronary spasm. Whether allergy is associated with an increased risk of CVD and diabetes is largely unknown. We investigated the association between atopy as assessed by IgE sensitization, a well-accepted biomarker of allergy, and incidence of ischemic heart disease, stroke, and diabetes in five Danish population-based cohorts. A total of 14,849 participants were included in the study. Atopy was defined as serum-specific IgE po...

Relationship of chronic rhinosinusitis with asthma, myocardial infarction, stroke, anxiety, and depression
ConclusionCRS is associated with an increased incidence of asthma, AMI, stroke, anxiety disorder, and depression. Therefore, we suggest that clinicians should monitor CRS patients carefully, and optimize management as a means to potentially decrease these other associated comorbid conditions.

Subtypes of Ischemic Stroke in the Young (P01.216)
CONCLUSIONS: Continuous monitoring will be necessary to see if ischemic stroke subtypes among the young are significantly different over time as these events, although slowly increasing in the past decade, are low frequency even in a large population. The 20-44 year old group has a higher proportion of "other" identified causes, but the 45-54 year old group has a surprising number of post-procedural events.Supported by: NIH-NINDS R-01 NS30678.Disclosure: Dr. Kissela has received personal compensation for activities with Allergan and Medicolegal Review. Vascular Parkinsonism in a Tertiary Care Stroke Prevention Clinic: Prevalence and Development of a New Screening Strategy (P3.087)
CONCLUSIONS: We documented a prevalence of 4.7% for VasP in a tertiary care SPC. The TQ had a high sensitivity and specificity to screen for Parkinsonism when the cut off 蠅4 was used. The FMAS was helpful to confirmVasP and distinguish it from the other forms of parkinsonism, including IPD. The two-step TQ-FMAS screening might be a useful strategy to identify promptly patients with VasP.Study Supported by: the Toupin Foundation.Disclosure: Dr. Manosalva Alzate has nothing to disclose. CT-Based Collateral Scoring Can Predict Ischemic Penumbra Volume in Acute Ischemic Stroke (P2.330)
Conclusion: A CS grading system comparing collaterals in the symptomatic hemisphere to the contralateral side accurately predicted MRI lesion volume and ischemic penumbra ratio in AIS patients. Because this system can be performed in community-based settings, it holds promise as a means of identifying patients requiring urgent transfer to a referral stroke center for interventional care.Disclosure: Dr. O'Donnell has nothing to disclose. Atopic dermatitis is not independently associated with nonfatal myocardial infarction or stroke among US women
Abstract We aimed to determine the association between atopic dermatitis (AD) and cardiovascular events in the Nurses' Health Study 2, a cohort of US women. We used logistic regression models to calculate age‐ and multivariate‐adjusted odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the associations between history of AD and nonfatal MI and nonfatal stroke. Of the 78 702 participants in our analysis, 7916 (10%) had a history of AD. There were 392 and 391 cases of nonfatal MI and stroke, respectively. AD was not associated with MI in age‐ or multivariate‐adjusted analyses. AD was significantly associated with...

Review finds no link between dairy and heart attack or stroke risk
Conclusion This large meta-analysis of cohort studies demonstrated no increased risk to cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease or all-cause death from eating dairy products. The review has strengths in its large size and the fact it was able to analyse different types of dairy product, such as high and low-fat and everyday products such as cheese and yoghurt. However, there are a number of factors to consider: The results of a systematic review are only as good as the quality of the underlying studies. These are all observational studies and it's possible that unadjusted health and lifestyle factors are having an...

Just a graze?
In conclusion, when approaching a patient with head injury and one or more cranial nerve palsies, it is important to consider cephalic tetanus. Figure 1 Axial CT head shows a large subcutaneous haematoma overlying the right frontal convexity with locules of gas and a 3mm metallic density at its inferior aspect, possibly representing a foreign body.

Sustained Efficacy with IncobotulinumtoxinA in Upper-Limb Post-Stroke Spasticity Over 48 Weeks (a Phase 3, Placebo-Controlled Study with an Open-Label Extension) (P3.303)
Conclusions: For subjects with upper-limb spasticity after a stroke, repeated injections of incobotulinumtoxinA (400U each at 12-week intervals) showed sustained efficacy in reducing muscle tone and spasticity-associated disability, while confirming the favorable safety profile of incobotulinumtoxinA in this indication.Disclosure: Dr. Elovic has received personal compensation from Allergan, Inc., and Solstice Neurosciences.
