Relationship of chronic rhinosinusitis with asthma, myocardial infarction, stroke, anxiety, and depression

ConclusionCRS is associated with an increased incidence of asthma, AMI, stroke, anxiety disorder, and depression. Therefore, we suggest that clinicians should monitor CRS patients carefully, and optimize management as a means to potentially decrease these other associated comorbid conditions.

CONCLUSIONS: Although consumption of a WPND was associated with a larger estimated GV in this pilot study, a larger study is necessary to conclude whether patients must fast longer than 2 hours after consumption of a WPND. PMID: 31630511 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrates the high frequency of social cognition impairment 3 years after the first-ever stroke in young patients. Doctors and nurses should be sensitized to cognitive handicap after stroke because of difficulties for rehabilitation and returning to work. PMID: 31633560 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

DISCUSSION: On the basis of the findings, this study showed evidence that increase in NPS burden (reflected by increase in NPI) over time predicts conversion to AD, whereas stability of symptoms (reflected by stable NPI score) favors nonconversion. Further study should investigate the underlying mechanisms that drive both NPS burden and cognitive decline. PMID: 31633557 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: In elderly individuals with T1DM, we found associations between dLOC and cognition overall and in men but not women. Underlying sex differences should be considered in future research or interventions on psychosocial characteristics for cognition. PMID: 31633555 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Antagonists of the type 1 cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1R) are widely used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis, with variable response rates. Alveolar macrophages express UDP-specific P2Y6 receptors that can be blocked by off-target effects of CysLT1R antagonists. Sensitizing intranasal doses of an extract from the house dust mite Dermatophagoides farinae (Df) sharply increased the levels of UDP detected in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of mice. Conditional deletion of P2Y6 receptors before sensitization exacerbated eosinophilic lung inflammation and type 2 cytokine production in response to subsequent Df challeng...

CONCLUSIONS: Although no injury-history differences were found among the sport-specialization groups, a higher proportion of club sport athletes than nonclub sport athletes reported a history of injury. Club sports are generally seen as more competitive, and the higher number of injuries seen in this setting could be related to a higher level of play among club sport athletes. We report a longitudinal behavioral study in a methylazoxymethanol acetate (MAM) rat model of schizophrenia at three different age periods: prepuberty, late-puberty and early-adulthood. MAM-treated rats showed stable hypolocomotive activity, anxiety and cognitive deficits from late-puberty to early-adulthood. Therefore we detected the metabolites changes of adult MAM-treated rats using an in vitro proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) method. In the MAM-treated rats, glutamate was increased in the thalamus and hypothalamus, glutamine was increased in the hippocampus and GABA was increased in the hippocampus and prefro...

Authors: Liu S, Yang B, Yang P, Liu Z Abstract Formula-3 is a Chinese herbal medicine formula that was shown to inhibit food allergy in rats by stabilizing mast cells. But whether Formula-3 ameliorates food allergy through modulating the composition of intestinal microbiota remains to be explored. Here, we aimed to determine whether gut microbiota mediate the anti-food allergic effects of Formula-3. Mouse model of food allergy (FA) was induced by intragastrically administered with ovalbumin and cholera toxin for two weeks, then these mice were orally administrated daily with 1 ml PBS (0.1 mmol/L) or 1 ml Formula-3 ...

CONCLUSION: The data indicated that rapamycin, an inhibitor of mTOR, blocked iNOS and NO production during asthma onset. Thus, our results revealed potential novel targets for asthma therapy. PMID: 31632585 [PubMed]

In conclusion, this study indicated that lncRNA ROR could promote the cerebral H/R injury by inhibiting the expression of miR-135a-5p or upregulating the expression of ROCK1/2. And, miR-135a-5p overexpression could improve the cerebral H/R injury by inhibiting the expression of ROCK1/2. PMID: 31632583 [PubMed]
