Telephone- and Text Message-Based Continuing Care After Residential Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Multicenter Study.
CONCLUSION: High-frequency proactive telephone contact by psychotherapists known to the patient may help patients to surmount the vulnerable phase after residential treatment and, in case of relapse, might help patients stay connected to health services, which in turn prevents chronification and facilitates recovery from AUD. Healthcare provider and medical cannabis patient communication regarding referral and medication substitution: the Canadian context
CONCLUSION: Most of the surveyed Canadian medical cannabis patients considered their PCPs knowledgeable about cannabis and were confident in their PCPs' ability to integrate cannabis into treatment plans. However, many surveyed patients substituted cannabis for other medications without consulting their PCPs. These results suggest a lack of integration between mainstream healthcare and medical cannabis that may be improved through physician education and clinical experience.PMID:35698183 | PMC:PMC9195481 | DOI:10.1186/s42238-022-00141-0

Education of hand rubbing technique to prospective medical staff, employing UV-based digital imaging technology.
Abstract The aim of this study was to objectively assess the hand hygiene performance of medical students. Hand rubbing technique was evaluated by employing innovative UV-light-based imaging technology, identifying patterns and trends in missed areas after applying WHO's six-step protocol. This specially designed hand hygiene education and assessment program targeted 1,344 medical students at two distant sites in Central Europe. Students were introduced to a short video, presenting the basics of hand hygiene, and then received further demonstration from professional trainers, focusing on the correct execution of W...

Coffee Consumption and Cancer Risk; An Assessment of the Health Implications Based on Recent Knowledge
A significant number of studies suggests that coffee consumption reduces cancer risk. This beneficial effect is usually ascribed to the presence of polyphenolic antioxidants and anti- inflammatory agents, including caffeine, cafestol, kahweol and chlorogenic acids. To summarize recent literature on this subject we performed a bibliographic search in PubMed and Embase over the period January 2005 to December 2020 to identify cohort studies and meta-analysis (with data collection ensuring quality of selected reports) that could provide quantitative data on the relationship between coffee consumption and common cancers. The t...

Rural Remote Health. 2023 Jan;23(1):8112. doi: 10.22605/RRH8112. Epub 2023 Jan 10.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: For many rural and remote regions of the world, the resources sector forms a necessary part of the local economy. Many workers and their families live in the local community and contribute to the social, educational and business fabric of that community. More still fly into rural areas where medical services exist and are required to support them. Australian coal mines require that all workers undertake a periodic medical examination to assess their fitness for their duties and to monitor for specific diseases inclusive ...
