Serum calcium concentrations are inversely correlated with pancreatic lipase concentrations in dogs
Am J Vet Res. 2023 Sep 19:1-5. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.23.07.0160. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: (1) Determine if a relationship exists between ionized calcium (iCa) and pancreatic lipase (cPLI) concentration in dogs, and (2) assess for correlation between resolving hypercalcemia and cPLI concentrations in dogs after treatment for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT).SAMPLES: Phase I, 44 residual serum samples (collected April 2023) from client-owned dogs with a clinical indication for cPLI quantification. Phase II, 24 residual serum samples (collected August 2022 through February 2023) from client-owned dogs with PHPT ...

Influence of Vitamin D Deficiency on Cyclin D1-Induced Parathyroid Tumorigenesis
Endocrinology. 2023 Sep 11:bqad137. doi: 10.1210/endocr/bqad137. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrinopathy for which several pathogenic mechanisms, including cyclin D1 overexpression, have been identified. Vitamin D nutritional status may influence parathyroid tumorigenesis, but evidence remains circumstantial. To assess the potential influence of vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency on initiation or progression of parathyroid tumorigenesis, we superimposed vitamin D insufficiency or deficiency on parathyroid tumor-prone PTH-cyclin D1 transgenic mice. Mice were placed on diet...

Robot-Assisted Parathyroidectomy Using Indocyanine Green (ICG) Fluorescence in Primary Hyperparathyroidism
Conclusions: Robot-assisted parathyroidectomy using ICG is helpful for the visual identification of the pathologic parathyroid gland. The advantage of robot parathyroidectomy is a better cosmetic outcome. However, it still does not show better clinical outcomes than conventional open focused parathyroidectomy.PMID:37629746 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59081456
