Predictors of ischemic events in patients with unilateral extracranial vertebral artery dissection: A single-center exploratory study
ConclusionMale sex, infections during the last week, and the presence of intraluminal thrombus due to dissection are associated with an increased risk of ischemic events in patients with unilateral EVAD.

High Actin Expression in Thrombus of Acute Ischemic Stroke Can Be a Biomarker of Atherothrombotic Origin Stroke
ConclusionOur findings suggest that actin's level was a major factor differentiating atherothrombotic origin strokes from the cardioembolic stroke.Clinical Trial RegistrationChiCTR2100051173.

Inflammation and Severe Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
This study reviews the current literature regarding the involvement of inflammation in the pathophysiology and anti-inflammatory interventions of severe CVT, which would contribute to informing the pathophysiology mechanism and laying a foundation for exploring novel severe CVT therapeutic strategies.

Stroke propensity in the Th3+/ mouse model of β-thalassemia intermedia
Neurobiol Dis. 2022 Jun 23:105802. doi: 10.1016/j.nbd.2022.105802. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTβ-thalassemia is associated with multiple hematological and cerebrovascular symptoms linked to a hypercoagulable state that has not been fully replicated in animal models for the development of stroke treatments. Herein we compared the physiological properties and responses to transient cerebral hypoxia-ischemia (tHI) between six-month-old wildtype and heterozygous Th3/+ mice, a model of non-transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia intermedia (β-TI). We found that Th3/+ mice developed microcytic anemia, splenomegaly, higher plate...

Utility of the SERPINC1 Gene Test in Ischemic Stroke Patients With Antithrombin Deficiency
ConclusionThe SERPINC1 gene test was useful in determining the cause of AT deficiency-related arterial thrombosis, especially ischemic stroke. We propose the diagnostic flow of SERPINC1-related ischemic stroke.

Change of Serum Biomarkers to Post-Thrombolytic Symptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage in Stroke
ConclusionsThis is the first study to identify changes in serum biomarkers in patients with sICH after IVT, and found that 6 neuroinflammatory and 3 neuroprotective biomarkers may be associated with brain injury following post-thrombolytic sICH.Clinical Trial Registrationhttps://www.clinicaltrials.gov, identifier: NCT02854592.

Stroke-derived neutrophils demonstrate higher formation potential and impaired resolution of CD66b  + driven neutrophil extracellular traps
Recent evidence suggests a merging role of immunothrombosis in the formation of arterial thrombosis. Our study aims to investigate its relevance in stroke patients.

Unusual Histopathological Findings in Mechanically Removed Stroke Thrombi – A Multicenter Experience
ConclusionIn our retrospective multicenter study, we characterized stroke thrombi histopathologically and found subgroups of thrombi defined by presence of rarely seen components. These defined subgroups showed relation to underlying cardiovascular disease, patient characteristics, and mechanical thrombectomy technique. Knowledge about these components may increase our understanding of stroke pathophysiology and influence interventional procedures.

Factors That Influence Susceptibility Vessel Sign in Patients With Acute Stroke Referred for Mechanical Thrombectomy
ConclusionIn the acute phase of proximal occlusion ischemic stroke, absence of SVS was associated with a shorter symptom onset–imaging time for patients with a known symptom onset time.

Ischemic Stroke and Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia following COVID-19 Vaccine: A Case Report with Systematic Review of the Literature
Conclusion: Our study points out that, in addition to cerebral venous thrombosis, adenoviral vector-based vaccines also appear to have a cerebral arterial thrombotic risk, and clinicians should be aware that ischemic stroke with LVO, although rare, could represent a clinical presentation of VITT.Cerebrovasc Dis

Efficacy and Safety of Recombinant Human Prourokinase in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Phase IIa Randomized Clinical Trial
AbstractRecombinant human prourokinase (rhPro-UK) is a novel thrombolytic that has been approved to treat patients with acute myocardial infarction. However, the safety and efficacy of intravenous rhPro-UK in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) has not been well established. We aimed to investigate the safety and preliminary efficacy of rhPro-UK in patients with AIS in a multi-center phase IIa trial setting. One hundred nineteen patients within 4.5  h of AIS onset were enrolled in this randomized, open-label, 23-center phase IIa clinical trial. Patients were randomly assigned to 35 mg (n = 40) or 50 mg (n =â...

Large Vessel Occlusions By Free Floating Thrombi in Strokes During the COVID-19 pandemic- A Single Center Observational Study
Conclusions: This study highlights the presence of FFT causing LVO as a new stroke subtype during the COVID-19 pandemic. With renewed and steeper spike in COVID-19 cases, especially new variants, the resurgence of this stroke subtype needs to be actively explored early in the course of illness to reduce morbidity and mortality.
