Valuing health states of people with type 2 diabetes: Analyses of the nationwide representative linked databases
ConclusionsMajor vascular complications, connective tissue disease, and depression are associated with considerably worse HRQoL. These health utility estimates can facilitate health economic evaluations to determine cost ‐effective strategies for diabetes management.

Effects of restoring normoglycemia in type 1 diabetes on inflammatory profile and renal extracellular matrix structure after simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation
Patients with type 1 diabetes have increased risk of macrovascular complications such as atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases including myocardial dysfunction and stroke [1,2], as well as microvascular complications including neuropathy, retinopathy and nephropathy [3]. Diabetic nephropathy is characterized by hypertension, albuminuria, reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and kidney morphological changes [4]. These overt effects are the long-term consequences of changes in several important signaling systems affected by hyperglycemia [5], by changes in the renin-angiotensin system, increased transforming growth fac...

Bone Morphogenetic Proteins: Inhibitors of Myelination in Development and Disease.
Abstract Myelin, the lipid membrane that surrounds axons, is critical for the propagation of nervous impulses and axonal maintenance. The destruction of myelin or lack of myelin formation due to disease or injury causes severe motor and cognitive disability. Regeneration of myelin is theoretically possible but rarely happens. Myelin is synthesized as the plasma membrane of the oligodendrocyte in the central nervous system. During development, myelin and oligodendrocytes are generated from oligodendrocyte progenitors through a process modulated by extrinsic growth factors signaling to cell-intrinsic proteins. Among...

ANGPTL2 is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events and death in diabetic patients
Conclusions/interpretationIn patients with type 2 diabetes, serum ANGPTL2 concentrations were independently associated with death and MACE. Therefore, ANGPTL2 is a promising candidate biomarker for improving risk stratification in type 2 diabetes patients, and may prove to be a valuable therapeutic target.

Outcomes in patients with diabetes 10 years after liver transplantation
ConclusionsIn our study, diabetes was associated with a higher risk of liver graft rejection and cardiovascular events. There was also a trend to higher mortality, although the effect was not statistically significant. These findings suggest that patients with diabetes require a more rigorous pretransplant evaluation and closer monitoring after transplantation, in order to try to reduce associated complications.
