Acute thrombotic occlusion involving three coronary arteries. A unique association with COVID ‐19 pneumonia
Proximal Left Anterior Descending artery (LAD) 100% thrombotic occlusion and distal Left circumflex artery (LCX) 100% thrombotic occlusion. B. distal Right Coronary artery (RCA) 100% thrombotic occlusion. C. Post-percutaneous coronary intervention to LAD and LCX Key Clinical MessageRespiratory viruses, particularly COVID-19, can be associated with severe cases of myocardial infarction (MI). Physicians should have a low threshold for MI in COVID-19 patients who present with persistent chest pain as MI in rapidly deteriorating cases can be missed. Prompt response includes both timely diagnosis and swift treatment.AbstractThe...

Corticosteroid-Associated Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head in Patients with Severe COVID-19: A Single-Center Study
CONCLUSIONS The data from this study corroborate earlier studies and case reports, suggesting an increased occurrence of AVN of the femoral head during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the high-dose corticosteroid therapy employed for patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 pneumonia.PMID:37431094 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940965

Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia complicated a case of SARS ‐CoV‐2 infection and multiple sclerosis after treatment with rituximab
Key Clinical MessageAlthough immunodeficient patients are less prone to develop Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-mediated cytokine storm, secondary infections can cause serious complications in this vulnerable population. They are more likely to develop opportunistic infections that can mimic the symptoms of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Herein, we presented a 27-year-old male patient of SARS-CoV-2 infection, who was complicated withPneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP), following treatment with rituximab. First, he was hospitalized for 5  days with fever, cough, and dysp...

In This Texas County, There ’ s No Such Thing as Moving on From COVID-19
Nearly one out of every 100 people living in Lamb County, Texas, died of COVID-19, one of the highest death rates in the nation. But in June 2022, more than two years after the start of the pandemic, many residents in the rural towns making up the panhandle county say things are back to normal. At a fundraiser for a Catholic church in Olton in the northeast part of the county, local families had set up stands selling gorditas and aguas frescas, and a live band belted out Tejano crowd pleasers while couples danced. Javi Lopez, 17 at the time, told me that people were comfortable gathering in groups now. Some of his friends ...

Pattern of self-reported adverse events related to COVID-19 vaccines in Saudi Arabia: A nationwide study
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the most prevalent SARS-CoV-2 vaccine side-effects among adults in Saudi Arabia were mild in nature. This information will help reduce vaccine hesitancy and encourage further mass vaccination to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as booster doses are now available. Further studies are warranted to obtain a better understanding of the association between risk factors and the experiencing of side-effects post vaccination.PMID:36908451 | PMC:PMC9995884 | DOI:10.3389/fpubh.2023.1043696

Myocarditis update from Sweden
BY ANISH KOKA The COVID19/vaccine myocarditis debate continues in large part because our public health institutions are grossly mischaracterizing the risks and benefits of vaccines to young people. A snapshot of what the establishment says as it relates to the particular area of concern: college vaccine mandates: Dr. Arthur Reingold, an epidemiology professor at UC-Berkeley, notes that UC also requires immunizations for measles and chickenpox, and people still are dying from COVID at rates that exceed those for influenza. As of Feb. 1, there were more than 400 COVID deaths a day across the U.S. “The arg...

Mortality Prediction of COVID-19 in Hospitalized Patients Using the 2020 Diagnosis Procedure Combination Administrative Database of Japan
Conclusions This COVID-19 mortality risk tool is a well-calibrated and accurate model for predicting mortality risk among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Japan, which is characterized by a relatively low COVID-19 prevalence, aging society, and high population density. This COVID-19 mortality prediction model can assist in resource utilization and patient and caregiver education and be useful as a risk stratification instrument for future research trials.PMID:36328573 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.0086-22

Acute pancreatitis masquerading as mesentric growth in COVID-19 patient: A case report
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2022 Oct-Dec;65(4):928-930. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_651_21.ABSTRACTCOVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It commonly affects the respiratory system, producing pneumonia-like symptoms. Among extrapulmonary manifestations, involvement of the gastrointestinal tract is common with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Coronavirus acts by targeting the ACE-2 receptors in the alveoli of the lungs, but because these receptors are also present in other organs, such as the pancreas, it can affect the pancreas as well,...
