Analysis of Absorbable Hemostatic Packing Compared to Physiologic Hemostasis in Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery With or Without Septoplasty.
CONCLUSION: This first reported prospective randomized study of patients with nonstrict selection criteria found AHP made no significant difference on subjective and objective postoperative outcomes as compared to physiologic hemostasis. Previous AHP-specific studies have shown differences in carefully selected patient groups. Generalizing study-proved benefits of specific AHP to all AHP is shown to be not appropriate. Can concurrent lower gastrointestinal manifestations help the timely diagnosis of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth in CVID patients?
Conclusions.Regarding the high prevalence and non-specific manifestation of SIBO, it is suggested to consider concurrent symptoms in patients with CVID to manage the timely and precise diagnosis of SIBO. PMID: 32186350 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effect of Guluronic Acid (G2013), As a New Anti-inflammatory Drug on Gene Expression of Pro-inflammatory and Anti-inflammatory Cytokines and Their Transcription Factors in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients.
In conclusion; the results of this investigation showed a part of the immunological mechanism of G2013 as a novel anti-inflammatory that could reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine and their transcription factors. Furthermore, it increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine and its transcription factor (clinical trial identifier: IRCT2016092813739N5). PMID: 32245307 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Characteristics of patients with C1 esterase inhibitor deficiency: a single center study.
Authors: Aytekin ES, Cagdas D, Tan C Abstract Summary: Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a primary complement factor deficiency, characterized by recurrent submucosal/subcutaneous swelling episodes. SERPING1 gene defects encoding C1 esterase inhibitor (C1INH) are responsible from the disease. Fifteen patients with HAE are retrospectively evaluated in this study. All patients (n=15) had HAE type I, 13 were from the same family, other two from two different families. Median age at onset of symptoms was 7 years (2-20); median age on diagnosis, 12 (0,5-41) and median delay in diagnosis, 3 years (0-33). Clinical symptoms w...

Effectiveness Comparison of Dexmedetomidine and Remifentanil for Perioperative Management in Patients Undergoing Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.
CONCLUSION: Dexmedetomidine had better postoperative sedative and analgesic effects than remifentanil for patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery in this study. Remifentanil and dexmedetomidine attenuated acute hemodynamic responses to be within normal ranges after intranasal injection of epinephrine, and no significant differences in terms of hemodynamic variables. Remifentanil was superior to dexmedetomidine in inducing hypotension during endotracheal intubation. PMID: 32438817 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Evaluation of Inflammatory State in Migraineurs: A Case-control Study.
Abstract Due to inconclusive findings of previous researches, we aimed to evaluate inflammatory state biomarkers in episodic and chronic migraineurs (EM and CM patients) compared to headache-free controls in the current study. Seventy-one migraine patients and 19 age-sex-matched controls were recruited. After obtaining demographic data and recording headache characteristics, blood samples were gathered and analyzed to evaluate the serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6. Serum levels of IL-6, CRP and TNF-α were significantly higher among subjects with CM than...

Effect of Dextrose Prolotherapy, Platelet Rich Plasma and Autologous Conditioned Serum on Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
In this study, the clinical efficiency of Dextrose prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and autologous conditioned serum (ACS) injection on the level of pain and function in Knee OA were compared. A randomized clinical trial was directed on 92 knee OA patients. Patients were randomly divided into three groups: 30 were received dextrose prolotherapy once in a week for three weeks, 30 received autologous PRP for two times with seven days interval, and in the remaining 32 patients 2ml of ACS were injected two times every seven days. Study participants were measured through the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WO...

Human Ascariasis: An Updated Review.
CONCLUSION: The average cure rate with anthelminthic treatment is over 95%. Unfortunately, most treated patients in endemic areas become re-infected within months. Health education, personal hygiene, improved sanitary conditions, proper disposal of human excreta, and discontinuing the use of human fecal matter as a fertilizer are effective long-term preventive measures. Targeting deworming treatment and mass anthelminthic treatment should be considered in regions where A. lumbricoides is prevalent. PMID: 32628606 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Chronic Cough on Health-Related Quality of Life in the Korean Adult General Population: The Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010-2016.
CONCLUSIONS: The present study demonstrated significant associations between chronic cough and health-related QoL in a nationwide large general adult population aged ≥ 40 years, which were independent of clinical confounders. The impact of chronic cough was greater in women aged ≥ 65 years. These findings indicate a considerable burden of chronic cough in the general population and warrant further investigations to assess the disease burden of chronic cough in a global scale.
