Association of blood manganese level with diabetes and renal dysfunction: a cross-sectional study of the Korean general population
Conclusion: The prevalence of diabetes and renal dysfunction increased in participants with low blood manganese levels, suggesting that blood manganese may play a role in glucose homeostasis and renal function.

The extra‐pancreatic effects of GLP‐1 receptor agonists: a focus on the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and central nervous systems
Abstract The glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs) exenatide and liraglutide have been shown to improve glycaemic control and beta‐cell function with a low risk of hypoglycaemia in people with type 2 diabetes. GLP‐1 receptors are also expressed in extra‐pancreatic tissues and trial data suggest GLP‐1RAs also have effects beyond their glycaemic actions. Genetic variation at the IGF1 locus shows association to post-stroke outcome and to circulating IGF-I.
CONCLUSION: Variation in rs7136446 of the IGF1 gene associates with post-stroke outcome in relatively young IS patients. Different effects of progesterone and estradiol on chimeric and wild type aldosterone synthase in vitro
Conclusions: Our results show an inhibitory action of progesterone in the aldosterone synthesis by chimeric or wild type aldosterone synthase enzymes. This is a novel regulatory mechanism of progesterone action, which could be involved in protecting pregnant women with FH-1 against hypertension. In vitro, both enzymes showed comparable kinetic parameters, but ASWT was more strongly inhibited than ASCE. This study implicates a new role for progesterone in the regulation of aldosterone levels that could contribute, along with other factors, to the maintenance of an adequate aldosterone-progesterone balance in pregnancy.

Blood Pressure and Stroke Risk among Diabetic Patients.
Conclusions:The current study suggests a U-shaped association between blood pressure and the risk of stroke. Aggressive BP control (<110/65 mmHg) and high blood pressure (≥160/100 mmHg) are associated with an increased risk of stroke among both African American and white patients with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes and cardiovascular events in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a 20‐year retrospective cohort study
ConclusionWe have shown a high incidence and age‐group‐specific prevalence of T2DM, MI and angina in the women with PCOS, with over a quarter having had MI or angina in those >65 years. These findings should be considered in the treatment strategies and long‐term planning for women with PCOS.

Lower incidence of recorded cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes using insulin aspart vs. those on human regular insulin: observational evidence from general practices
ConclusionUse of the rapid‐acting insulin analogue aspart was associated with a reduced incidence of macrovascular outcomes in type 2 diabetes in general practices. It is important to confirm this finding in a randomized controlled trial.
