Longitudinal maternal haemodynamics in fetal growth restriction in pregnancies at high risk for placental insufficiency
ConclusionSerial assessment of maternal haemodynamics in high risk women illuminates distinctive trends associated with gestations destined to deliver babies under the 10th and 5th percentiles. These pregnancies have a suppressed and static maternal cardiac output and stroke volume and have consistently raised peripheral vascular resistance. This suggests that fetal growth restriction is associated with a primary and persistent failure of maternal cardiovascular adaptation in pregnancy in women with chronic hypertension or a history of hypertensive disorder in a previous pregnancy.

Maternal cardiovascular function at 35-37 weeks' gestation: Relation to maternal characteristics.
CONCLUSIONS: Maternal cardiovascular parameters are affected by maternal characteristics, medical and obstetric history and they should therefore be converted into multiples of the normal median adjusted for significant independent predictors before their inclusion in combined screening for PE. The Troms ø Study 1974-2016: forty years of cardiovascular research.
The Tromsø Study 1974-2016: forty years of cardiovascular research. Scand Cardiovasc J. 2016 Sep 21;:1-16 Authors: Njølstad I, Mathiesen EB, Schirmer H, Thelle DS Abstract The rapid increase of coronary heart disease mortality in Northern Norway during 1951-1970 was why the newly established University of Tromsø decided to start a study to identify major operating cardiovascular risk factors. The first Tromsø survey in 1974 suggested that the relatively high cardiovascular mortality was associated with elevated cholesterol levels and high prevalence of smoking, while high-density-lipoprotein-choles...

Maternal cardiac function at 35-37 weeks' gestation: prediction for preeclampsia and gestational hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: In women developing term-PE total peripheral resistance and MAP are increased and maternal cardiac output is reduced. However, assessment of maternal cardiac function at 35-37 weeks' gestation is unlikely to improve the performance of screening for PE provided by maternal factors and MAP alone. Cerebral Hemodynamics in the Elderly: A Transcranial Doppler Study in the Einstein Aging Study Cohort
Conclusions— We report a decreased mean blood flow velocity and weakly increased arterial pulsatility and resistance with aging in a large elderly stroke-free population. These referential trends in cerebrovascular hemodynamics may carry important implications in vascular diseases associated with advanced age, increased risk of cerebrovascular disease, cognitive decline, and dementia.

Prostate size, nocturia, and the digital rectal exam: a cohort study of 30,500 men
ConclusionsDRE is a modestly accurate tool for measuring prostate volume. While DRE posterior surface area represents a statistically significant predictor of nocturia, the magnitude of effect suggests it has limited clinical utility for assessing this condition, particularly in the presence of cardiovascular risk factors. This article is protected by copyright. Predictors of Restenosis Following Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting Brief Reports
Conclusions— Carotid restenosis after carotid angioplasty is associated with ipsilateral stroke occurrence. In our sample, hypertension, angioplasty without stent, and impaired vasoreactivity identify patients at high risk of restenosis and could help to select patients for follow-up ultrasonography imaging.

Chronic vagal nerve stimulation prevents high-salt diet-induced endothelial dysfunction and aortic stiffening in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats
In conclusion, chronic VNS prevents hypertension-induced endothelial dysfunction and aortic stiffening in an animal model of severe hypertension. We speculate that anti-inflammatory mechanisms may contribute to these effects.

Prevalence and covariates of masked hypertension in ischemic stroke survivors: the Norwegian Stroke in the Young Study
Background: Masked hypertension (MHT) is characterized by normal clinic blood pressure (BP), but elevated ambulatory BP has been associated with a higher prevalence of cardiovascular organ damage. Methods: We assessed the prevalence and characteristics of MHT in 298 ischemic stroke patients aged 15–60 years. High-normal office BP was considered present if systolic BP was 130–139 mmHg and/or diastolic BP was 85–89 mmHg. Arterial damage was defined as increased pulse wave velocity measured by applanation tonometry and/or mean common carotid intima-media thickness more than 0.9 mm measured by ultrasound. Results...

Lower limb peripheral arterial disease in 268 patients in Guadeloupe.
CONCLUSION: In our population, an infrapopliteal site was more often found than a proximal site. Distal localization was associated with diabetes, and proximal localization with smoking. Cardiovascular risk factors exhibited an atypical pattern with a large majority of patients (88 %) having high blood pressure, two-thirds diabetes, but with very few (7 %) smokers. Peripheral arterial disease was more often associated with a history of stroke than with ischemic heart disease. PMID: 27289257 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
