Impact of Non-Adherence on Renal and Cardiovascular Outcomes in US Veterans.
CONCLUSIONS: Assignment of V15.81 code prior to AHD therapy was associated with higher risks of renal and cardiovascular outcomes in incident hypertensive US veterans. Previous history of non-adherence is a poor prognostic marker in hypertensive individuals; therefore, patients with V15.81 code may require close monitoring. Valvular calcification upon initiating dialysis predict the appearance of cardiovascular events in patient evolution.

Kidney Measures with Diabetes and Hypertension on Cardiovascular Disease: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study.
CONCLUSION: Although individuals with DM and HTN generally had higher cardiovascular risk relative to those without these complications, both low eGFR and high ACR were associated with cardiovascular diseases regardless of the presence or absence of DM and HTN. Risk-based individualisation of target haemoglobin in haemodialysis patients with renal anaemia in the post-TREAT era: theoretical attitudes versus actual practice patterns (MONITOR-CKD5 study)
Conclusions Physicians’ theoretical attitudes to anaemia management in patients on haemodialysis appear to have been influenced by the results of the TREAT study, which involved patients not on dialysis. Physicians claim to use risk-based target Hb levels to guide renal anaemia care. However, there is discrepancy between these declared risk-based target Hb levels and actual target Hb levels for patients with variable risk factors.

Epidemiologic insights on the role of fibroblast growth factor 23 in cardiovascular disease
Purpose of review: Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) regulates phosphate and vitamin D homeostasis and rises as kidney function declines. Animal studies have demonstrated direct and indirect effects of FGF23 that may promote heart disease. Herein, we review the recent epidemiologic literature evaluating the relationship between FGF23 and cardiovascular disease. Risk of acute myocardial infarction after androgen‐deprivation therapy for prostate cancer in a Chinese population
ConclusionsThere was increased risk of AMI after ADT for prostate cancer in a Chinese population. Hyperlipidaemia and poor ECOG PS were also significant risk factors for developing AMI. The risk of AMI should be considered when deciding on ADT, especially in patients with history of hyperlipidaemia and relatively poor ECOG PS.

The impact of comorbidity on survival after hemorrhagic stroke among dialysis patients: a nationwide population-based study
Conclusions: Dialysis patients who have history of prior stroke, diabetes and malignancy have worse survival than patients without these comorbidities. Attention must focus on providing optimal medical care after hemorrhagic stroke for these target groups to reduce mortality.
