Association between hypertension and stroke in US adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2007 to 2018
CONCLUSION: Our results show that there is a significant positive correlation between BP and stroke. When the systolic blood pressure (SBP) is about 140 mmHg, the risk of stroke is the lowest; Male patients with diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of about 80mmHg have a lower risk of stroke.PMID:36260517 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2022.2138470

Post ‐stroke hypertension control and receipt of health care services among veterans
Many ischemic stroke patients do not achieve goal blood pressure (BP < 140/90 mm Hg). To identify barriers to post‐stroke hypertension management, we examined healthcare utilization and BP control in the year after index ischemic stroke admission. This retrospective cohort study included patients admitted for acute ischemic stroke to a VA hospital in fiscal year 2011 and who were discharged with a BP ≥ 140/90 mm Hg. One‐year post‐discharge, BP trajectories, utilization of primary care, specialty and ancillary services were studied. Among 265 patients, 246 (92.8%) were seen by primary care (PC) during the 1...

Development and validation of a 2-year new-onset stroke risk prediction model for people over age 45 in China
Multiple factors, including increasing incidence, poor knowledge of stroke and lack of effective, noninvasive and convenient stroke risk prediction tools, make it more difficult for precautions against stroke in China. Effective prediction models for stroke may assist to establish better risk awareness and management, healthier lifestyle, and lower stroke incidence for people. The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey was the development cohort. Logistic regression was applied to model's development, in which the candidate variables with statistically significant coefficient were included in the prediction model...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 8455: Diabetes, Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation and Subsequent Stroke-Shift towards Young Ages in Brunei Darussalam
eiko Becher Southeast Asia harbors a young population of more than 600 million people. Socioeconomic transition within the last decades, driven by globalization and rapid economic growth, has led to significant changes in lifestyle and nutrition in many countries of this region. Hence, an increase in the number of non-communicable diseases is seen in most populations of Southeast Asia. Brunei Darussalam is the smallest country in this region, with a population of around 400,000 inhabitants. Vast hydrocarbon resources have transformed Brunei into a wealthy industrialized country within the last few decades. We compared ...

Association between within-visit blood pressure variability, stroke, coronary heart disease, and cardiovascular mortality
CONCLUSIONS: Within-visit variability in SBP is associated with increased risks of stroke, coronary heart disease, and cardiovascular mortality, but the relationship is confounded by age and covariates.PMID:37655640 | DOI:10.5603/pjnns.94839

Relationship Between Open-angle Glaucoma and Stroke: A 2010 to 2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
This study was a population-based, cross-sectional study that used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), a complex, stratified, multistage, probability-cluster survey. We analyzed a total of 11,959 participants who were above 40 years old and were included in the fifth KNHANES database (2010 to 2012 data). Weighted prevalence of OAG and stroke in various populations were estimated. Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were performed to examine potential risk factors for stroke, including OAG. Multivariate adjusted odds ratios (OR) for stroke were examined in subjects wi...

The prevalence of stroke according to indoor radon concentration in South Koreans: Nationwide cross section study
This study combines 2 nationwide studies. Demographic characteristics and medical history of participants were obtained from Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2007 to 2012. Participants over 40 years old and who completed the questionnaire were included in the study. Indoor radon concentration was analyzed using the mean value of winter housing radon concentration from 2012 to 2016 published by the National Institute of Environmental Research. The average values of each metropolitan city and province were assigned to the residence of the participant. To eliminate the potential confoundi...
