Do cerebrovascular risk factors impact the clinical expression of idiopathic isolated adult-onset dystonia?
Although acquired dystonia may develop following ischaemic/haemorrhagic stroke, the relationship between cerebrovascular disease and idiopathic dystonia has been poorly investigated. This cross sectional study aimed at evaluating the impact of cerebrovascular risk factors on the clinical expression of idiopathic adult onset dystonia (IAOD), with reference to dystonia localization and dystonia-associated features.

Neurophysiologic Features Reflecting Brain Injury During Pediatric ECMO Support
ConclusionsIncreased seizure burden and increased interhemispheric differences in both quantitative electroencephalographic amplitude and TCD MCA TIBI scores are independently associated with acute brain injury in children undergoing ECMO support.

Floor-to-Stand Performance Among People Following Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: The TSS demonstrates concurrent validity with physical performance measures.IMPACT: Findings serve to improve functional mobility examination after stroke and to formulate effective treatment interventions to improved floor-to-stand performance.PMID:37690073 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzad122

Quantification of carotid plaque composition with a multi-contrast atherosclerosis characterization (MATCH) MRI sequence
CONCLUSION: MATCH images can be used to quantify plaque components such as LRNC and IPH but not for calcifications. Although MATCH images showed a lower mean image quality score, short scan time and inherent co-registration are significant advantages.PMID:37680565 | PMC:PMC10481960 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1227495

Diffusion-Restricted Lesions of the Splenium: Clinical Presentation, Radiographic Patterns, and Patient Outcomes
Discussion Vascular DR lesions of the splenium were more common than CLOCCs and other etiologies in this cohort. While splenial DR lesions can present a clinical challenge, their associated clinical and radiographic characteristics may predict outcome and guide prognosis.

A prospective cohort study on decreased serum apelin-13 levels after human aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: associations with severity and prognosis
AbstractApelin-13 may have neuroprotective effects. We aimed to determine whether serum apelin-13 could serve as a potential biomarker for severity, delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), and prognosis after human aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). In this prospective, observational, cohort, single-center study of 139 patients with aSAH and 139 healthy individuals, serum apelin-13 levels were determined. The indicators of stroke severity were the Hunt-Hess scale and the modified Fisher grading scale. The prognostic parameters were DCI and 6-month worse prognosis (Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale scores of 1 –4). Using bi...

Do SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists modulate differently the risk of stroke ? Discordance between randomised controlled trials and observational studies
Diabetes Metab. 2023 Sep 5:101474. doi: 10.1016/j.diabet.2023.101474. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke represents a major burden in patients with type 2 diabetes, yet this cerebrovascular complication has been less carefully investigated than the risk of cardiovascular mortality, heart failure and renal disease. Some data suggested that glucagon peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) exert a better protection against stroke than sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is). However, this conclusion was derived from indirect comparisons in absence of any head-to-head randomised controlled trial (RCT). The present...

Study of Rivaroxaban for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Randomized Controlled Feasibility Trial Comparing Anticoagulation With Rivaroxaban to Standard-of-Care in Symptomatic Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
CONCLUSIONS: Recruitment targets were reached, but many eligible participants declined randomization. There were numerically more bleeding events in patients taking rivaroxaban compared with control, but rates of bleeding and recurrent venous thromboembolism were low overall and in keeping with previous studies. Participants had symptoms affecting their well-being at enrollment but improved over time.REGISTRATION: URL: https://www.CLINICALTRIALS: gov; Unique identifier: NCT03178864.PMID:37675613 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.123.044113

Serum biomarkers to predict hemorrhagic transformation and ischemic stroke outcomes in a prospective cohort study
This study aimed to investigate the potential prognosis role of non-specific laboratory data at admission and baseline MMP-2 and MMP-9 serum levels in predicting HT risk, discharge, and 3-month follow-up status of IS patients. Data from 150 successive acute cerebral infarction patients were analyzed in a prospective cohort study. The active group included patients who developed HT during hospitalization (55 persons). There were no significant differences in age, gender distribution, time to admission, or time to blood sample collection for MMPs measurement between patients in the active and control groups. IS patients from...
