Effect of age on arterial recanalization and clinical outcome in thrombolyzed acute ischemic stroke in CLOTBUST cohort
Conclusion: Elderly AIS patients achieve relatively poor functional outcome after IV-tPA despite similar rates of arterial recanalization. However, there is no increase in the hemorrhagic risk. Perhaps, decision for IV thrombolysis in elderly patients should be made cautiously.

16834 Risk of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke subsequent to diagnosis for hidradenitis suppurativa: Real-world data from a large urban Midwestern US patient population
Background: Although hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular events, the risk for stroke has been inconsistently reported. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of stroke in HS patients from real world data within a large urban midwestern US dermatology patient population.

Risk and prognostic factors in perinatal hemorrhagic stroke
Conclusion: Our findings showed that PHS was much more common in preterm infants. Mucosal bleeding and multiple lobes involvement were more common in term infants. PHS has high morbidity and mortality rates. Small for gestational age and mucosal bleeding were more common in infants who are dead.

& #8216;More than just skin in the game & #8217;. DADA2 autoinflammatory syndrome and stroke in the young
Ashin Varghese, Joe Thomas, Boby Varkey MaramattomAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2021 24(3):410-412 A 21-year-old man had a long-standing history of leg ulcers and hyperpigmention over the feet. Over a span of 8 months, he had an acute ischemic stroke followed by a basal ganglia hemorrhage. He was finally diagnosed with DADA2 syndrome after genetic sequencing. The implications of this new syndrome and its links to stroke in the young are presented in this article.

Tenecteplase and alteplase for thrombolysis of acute ischemic stroke within 4.5 hours: An efficacy and safety study
Conclusions: This study showed a comparable efficacy and safety profile of alteplase and TNK in thrombolysis of AIS throughout the 4.5 hours window period. Moreover, the ease of administration and better pharmacodynamic properties favors tenecteplase.

Can citrus ward off your risk of stroke?
(American Academy of Neurology) Eating foods that contain vitamin C may reduce your risk of the most common type of hemorrhagic stroke, according to a study released today that will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 66th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, April 26-May 3, 2014.

SRF/MRTF depletion provokes hemorrhagic stroke Cell Biology
Intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke and vascular dementia are age- and hypertension-associated manifestations of human cerebral small vessel disease (SVD). Cerebral microvessels are formed by endothelial cells (ECs), which are connected through tight junctions, adherens junctions, and stabilizing basement membrane structures. These endothelial connections ensure both vessel stability and blood–brain barrier (BBB)...

Acute ischemic stroke treatment using mechanical thrombectomy: A study of 137 patients
Conclusion: MT is safe treatment and equally effective for both AC and PC LVO. With careful patient selection, clinical outcome in PC was comparable to AC despite delayed presentation and higher baseline NIHSS.

IL-4/STAT6 signaling facilitates innate hematoma resolution and neurological recovery after hemorrhagic stroke in mice Neuroscience
Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating form of stroke affecting millions of people worldwide. Parenchymal hematoma triggers a series of reactions leading to primary and secondary brain injuries and permanent neurological deficits. Microglia and macrophages carry out hematoma clearance, thereby facilitating functional recovery after ICH. Here, we elucidate a pivotal...

Safety of recanalization therapy in acute ischemic stroke patients on direct oral anticoagulant therapy: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis
Yanxing Zhang, Huan Tang, Xiaohong Gui, Ye Du, Chenglong WuAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology 2022 25(6):1036-1046 This review provides an updated assessment of the safety of recanalization therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) patients receiving direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) therapy. We checked the literature for published observational from 1st January 1950 to 31st March 2021. The rate of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH), arterial recanalization rate, good functional recovery, and mortality at 3 months were investigated, and data were expressed as Risk ratio (RR) with a 95% confidence inte...

Stenosis Length and Degree Interact With the Risk of Cerebrovascular Events Related to Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis
Conclusion: We found a statistically insignificant tendency for the ultrasound-measured length of sICAS<70% to be longer than that of sICAS≥70%. Moreover, the ultrasound-measured length of sICAS<90% was significantly longer than that of sICAS 90%. Among patients with sICAS≥70%, the degree and length of stenosis were inversely correlated. Larger studies are needed before a clinical implication can be drawn from these results. Introduction Internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS) causes around one-fifth of ischemic cerebrovascular stroke and has the highest risk of early stroke recurrence...

Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Is Associated With Circadian and Other Variability in Embolus Detection
Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. This corresponds with peak circadian incidence of stroke and other vascular complications. These and ASED Study results show that monitoring frequency, duration, and time of day are important in ES detection. Introduction Transcranial Doppler (TCD) detected microembolism in the ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) may help stratify the risk of stroke and other arterial disease complications in persons with advanced (≥60%) asymptomatic carotid stenosis. If so, this t...
