The impact of COVID-19 on myocardial infarctions, strokes and out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrests: an observational retrospective study on time-sensitive disorders in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy)
AbstractThe COVID-19 global pandemic has changed considerably the way time-sensitive disorders are treated. Home isolation, people ’s fear of contracting the virus and hospital reorganisation have led to a significant decrease in contacts between citizens and the healthcare system, with an expected decrease in calls to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia (FVG) region. However, mortality in clinic al emergencies like acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), stroke and out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest (OHCA) remained high. An observational retrospective cross-sectional study was...

Failure of Therapeutic Anticoagulation in COVID-19 Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke. A Retrospective Multicenter Study
ConclusionsThe occurrence of an anticoagulation failure seems to be increased in the setting of COVID-19 infection, with worse clinical outcomes if compared to non-COVID-19 related ischemic strokes. We discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of such evidence, suggesting that some arterial thrombotic complications might be either resistant to or independent of the anticoagulation effect.

Neurological emergency at the COVID-19 pandemic: report from a referral hospital in Eastern Piedmont, Italy
We described how the flow of neurological emergencies was affected by the pandemic impact.MethodsWe analyzed accesses to the Emergency Department (ED) of the “Maggiore della Carità” Hospital, Piedmont, Italy, during a period of 8 months (COVID time; March to May 2020 and October 2020 to February 2021) and analyzed the admissions to the Neurology Unit and the underlying diagnosis. This study systematically reviewed published studies and conducted meta-analysis to evaluate the association between the risk of ischemic stroke and COVID-19. This study was conducted according to guidelines from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The protocol used in this study had been registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Web of Science were searched from 1st December 2019-19th February 2021. Reduction in Neurological Disease Hospitalization Rate During Covid-19 Pandemic in Abruzzo
ConclusionsDespite the severity of the diseases included in MDC 1 (i.e. ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage), a significant decline was detected in hospital admissions in Abruzzo. Subsequently, a high number of subjects might have not received the necessary health assistance leading to an increase in mortality and morbidity for these severe pathologies. Additionally, patients might have avoided seeking hospital care in response to the fear of contagion triggered either by media or as a result of the stay-at-home government recommendations.Key messagesAn alarming reduction in all types of hospitalizations for neurologi...

Outcome after acute ischemic stroke treatment during Covid-19 outbreak in South-East Tuscany
CONCLUSION: During the lockdown period due to Covid-19 pandemic, patients with acute ischemic stroke had a worse prognosis.
